Well, I built a cheap comp for a friend and he keeps getting random bsods and lockups (they started immediatly). After hearing the complaints, I memtested, ran prime 95 for about an hour, did a full disk scan, etc. No problems were detected by these test, but the bsods persisted. Finally I replaced every single part of the computer piece by piece with parts of other systems to try to isolate the problem, mobo, ram, HD, power supply, and the ide cables. I even reinstalled windows using different cds. The only part I didn't have an extra of was the cpu, but prime95 had run for an hour with no errors and so had memtest86. I would greatly appreciate it if someone with a little more knowledge than me could shed light on this. Aside from the cpu, the only thing it could really be is the integrated graphics chip on the mobo.
Specs of system in question:
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (1.83ghz)
MOBO: Biostar nForce2 IGP Model "M7NCG 400"
Ram: 256mb Geil pc2700
HD: WD 80 gig 2mb cache
The BSOD identifies win32k.sys as the problem, so I'm guessing that a likely problem is the integrated graphics, I'll test another graphics card as soon as I can. Until then, any suggestions would be great, thanks in advance.
