I know there are software such as RivaTuner and ATI Tray Tools, but trying to get them to run in Windows 7 x64 means the drivers they use will not load.

Using software such as Driver Signing Enforcement puts Windows 7 x64 into Test Mode.
No thank you.

Pressing F8 and Disable driver signing software at every boot up.
Too tedious, no thank you.

Editing boot up options with the following:
Code:
bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON
Works, but puts Windows 7 x64 into Test Mode.

Is there a fan controller for Windows 7 x64 that will allow it to run without issue or doesn't having to go through loops in Windows 7 x64?

I go through video card reviews such as the ones on Guru3D or here on [H], and others that use such software, do they go through this hassle as well?

I've had similar problem in Vista x64 as well. This is just ridiculous trying to get these to run, and I really don't want to resort to buying some $55 Zalman fan to keep my HD3870 cool.

I have had no problems using MSI afterburner and my own custom fan control.
Under windows 7 64 bit.

ATi Tray Tools works now without disabling driver signing. Just set it up as a scheduled task.

Using RivaTuner right now with Windows7 x64 to keep my 4850's at 100% fan and I absolutely did not have to do anything special.

Just odd because...

... RivaTuner shows it failed to load its driver-- Rivatuner64.sys.

... ATI Tray Tools does the same thing with its own driver.

I get a warning window saying that the driver wasn't signed. And, if I use the driver signing software, it doesn't actually sign it.

How come you're not getting a driver-cannot-load issue in Windows 7 x64? I'm using Win7 x64 Ultimate.

I'm using the one from Guru3D.com including RivaTuner. Both are giving the same exact issue.

I even tried Driver Signing Enforcement Overrider: http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=dseo

Followed the instructions to the "T." Restart, I get "Windows 7, Build 7600, Test Mode." I don't want that.

Disabling Test Mode after I have already signed it I get this:

This is for RivaTuner and ATI Tray Tools. I cannot start up ATI Tray Tools with Low level driver installation either. Doesn't work. It even asks me to reinstall as a Local administrator, yet my account IS THE administrator of this PC since I'm the only person using it.

Right-clicking each installation file to Run as Administrator doesn't fix it.

Setting it to run as Run as Administrator in Vista (Service Pack 2) compatibility doesn't work either.

I got a similar issue back in Vista x64.

How you guys say you had "no problems" is probably a lie because I'm getting this issue that it won't load ATITray64.sys nor Rivatuner64.sys upon start up. This is even if I use Task Scheduler-- driver will not load regardless what I do.

It is not a lie, and you should be using the latest version of ATT. If you set it up correctly as a scheduled task it will load and run perfectly at logon with no driver signing disabling or even UAC prompt.

Is there some reason you can't use the fan control that is built into Catalyst Control Center? CCC has had manual fan control built in for over a year now. I've set the fan speed manually on my HD4850 since last year... on Vista x64 and now Windows 7 x64. I set it to manual 35% fan speed. The card never overheats, and is still relatively silent (can't hear over case fans).

Just go to the overdrive section of the control panel. Odds are that if CCC doesn't support the fan speed adjustments, your card might not have the circuitry to do it in the first place OR you have a non reference design that uses proprietary software from the card's manufacturer.

lol yeah we are lying about being able to install RivaTuner

What version are you attempting to install? The version I'm using is "v2.24 MSI Master Overclocking Arena 2009 edition" that I got from Guru3d. From doing a quick google search it seems that the issues with Windows 7 were fixed between version 2.21 and 2.22.

Not sure if this is applicable to the OP, but with my 4850's in crossfire, manual fan control is a function of Overdrive. Unfortunately for some reason if you run Dual Displays along with Crossfire, enabling overdrive causes issues with the idle clocks on the cards and will cause the 2nd display to flicker until the display driver crashes. RivaTuner is the only way I am able to adjust the fan and/or overclock with my configuration.

Put Windows 7 into Test Mode. Reboot. Install the latest ATT beta. Reboot. Take Windows 7 out of Test Mode. Reboot.

Done.
