Software crossfeed in linux?

Hmmm....
Using mplayer -af pan:2:1:.5:.5:1, I've got a nice crossfeed, however, mplayer isn't nearly as nice as amarok. Now to find out if I can chain output from one to the other...

Using ALSA, maybe you can create some custom plug: devices in asound.conf, and use dmixer to mix the streams, but dmixer does awful software resampling to allow devices to share the card.
Audio in Linux really sucks sometimes, high latency hurts emus too.
