SoftModding a 9800SE

I'm looking at a PowerColor 9800 SE and it looks like a Solid Card to Soft Mod.

You can pump out some serious action out of that chipset, theorically anyway. But I'm not fimilar with PowerColor. Has anyone had any experience with this card? Some input would be great. thanks in advance.

Why take chances. There is a 33% chance of the softmod working.

33%??? Everybody says 50%. And if the softmod doesnt work, theres a chance you can make it work if you know what your doing and tweak around a bit.

I got my 9800se and it softmodded perfectly. My friend tried his luck and it didnt work, so I read up some posts on the forum at ocfaq.com and I tweaked around a bit, and somehow got it to work.

Anyway, I picked mine up for $121, so even if it didnt softmod I was gona be happy.

I'd say the chances are a lot higher than 33%... To be honest, i'd say it's the majority of the cards that have just been crippled. Back in the 9500 days ATi was just trying to fill that middle-range card (while developing the actual 9500 pcb) so they began using their binned chips to make these cards. Then once the demand started picking up they had to resort to using good chips, or very slightly bad chips (i hear ATi's QC is very strict). I think the process of making the 350/360 core is much better, and i wouldn't be surprised to see the yields being a lot more consistent.

thats a crappy 128 bit 9800 pro for $173.....
and theres a 33% chance of the softmod NOT working
