i was a huge fan of the old ps2 socoms and was really dissappointed with the ps3 version. last week the cold front expansion came out and really turned that around for me awesome new maps and awesome remakes of the old ones.

still have issues with the communities elitism (i was voted out of a few games for being a noob) :)

anyone else playing now that there is an update? add me on psn (same as my username here)

i feel like i'm being mad fun of here too........ :( oh well. i guess noone else likes socom anymore. i'll go fail there by my loser self.
 
I played SOCOM 1 and SOCOM 2 for countless hours back in their day, but SOCOM 3's addition of vehicles and huge open maps ruined the strategic "funneled action" feel that 1 and 2 had. The rest of the SOCOMs they released for PS2 just worsened the problem and I never bought the one for PS3.

Is the PS3 one more like SOCOM 1 and 2 or more like SOCOM 3
 
yes the ps3 one is more like the ps2 ones no vehicles. some of the maps have large and small versions but feel awesome. they have the old socom 1 and 2 maps. and the new DLC brough back vigilince nightstalker and blizzard.

i agree i didn't play much socom 3 becuase of vehicles and large maps.

I play. Not that much though because I get my ass kicked all the time. And yeah I'm pretty sick of the elitism, not only in game but also on the official forums. I don't think I've seen a more fuckin whiney group of people than SOCOM fanboys. Almost as bad as the Steam forums...

As for the game itself, its not bad at all. Quite fun at times. The DLC made it even more so. And I think that thermal scope is bad ass. All the complaining about the dark maps is hilarious. It seems more realistic that way at least to me. Requires you to use some brains and nightvision as well as the thermal scope.
