Sockets

you might want to try a 754 pin AMD64 or a 939 pin AMD64. . . those are pretty good. :)
 
Sockets are how the CPU connects to teh Mobo

AMD: Intel:
Socket: A = Duron 1.3-1.8, 423 = first P4(willamette)
Athlon/XP/MP 1.0-3200+ 478 = most P4, northwood, the other one
754 = first gen A64, 2800+ and up T (775) = Prescott based
939 = A64 3200 and up/ A64-FX 479 = new for desktop Pentium M (dothan)
940 = A64-FX and Opteron

i may have made some small errors, this is all coming out of my head and i don't remember all the specifics, so feel free to correct my errors
