I want to build a sick gaming pc in about 2 months give or take. I was planning on going with a socket 939 mobo with the AMD Opteron Dual Core 165 processor. I posted my build in the general hardware section and found a reply saying i should use a AM2 or Logisomething socket instead. Would these really be optimal performance for me for gaming and still be as affordable as the Opteron.

just do the opteron - nothing is as cheap/performance as that is (right now, that is)

Just FYI, Conroe might be out by then. While I won't be buying one, that is another option for people building new rigs in the near future

Well. DDR2 is cheaper than DDR these days, so ram for an AM2 setup wouldnt cost as much. But more importantly, S939 is a dead socket now. No new processors coming out for it, on the other hand when AMD moves to 65nm, AM2 will still probably be the primary desktop socket. But if you're building a couple months from now, definitely look at going Intel with Conroe.
