I currently have an a7n8x-x mobo that will take any socket A i throw at it. I just got my 6800gt not that long ago, and have to match stuff up with it. I currently have an xp2000+ w/ 512 pc2100ddr. I could buy 1 gb 3200+ and an xp3200+ chip, or I could buy a new mobo and get a new 90nm 320064 chip, but that would cost ~100 dollars more. Would the performance increase be worth it...?

I am fairly tight on cash reserves, but can probably do either depending on situation... What would opinions be...? (power supply/case shoudlnt be an issue with either)

Spend the money!

For 100 bucks I think the move to 64 bit will be worth it. I just purchased a 3500+ a64 to replace my xp2000, was 375 buck compared to spending around 125 for a stepped up xp. But for and extra 200, I get a better chip, and it's future proof...well for a year, hehe.

I say go for it!

Just my humble .02, tho, you're buyin'!

Hm... Thx for theinput. What ram would you suggest for the 64 rig? My favorite brand is mushkin but I dont knwo what the best bang/buck would be... I wont be overclocking until its late in its life cycle probably, so XMS would probably be overkill... (i would order from newegg 80% chance)

is lookinglike my best bet... but im not sure... (memory is what probably know the least about.. and i do have a corsair pen i won at a lan party in my hand.. lol..)

i have the same ram and I love it

Runing 11-3-3-2 220FSB 2.8v in my Abit NF7 S

I had a 2500+ mobile @ 2.5 ghz (higher then the 2.2 of the 3200 u wanna get) and let me tell u. The move to 3200+ amd 64 was a VERY good move! Even at stock 2.0 ghz (s939 90 nm cpu) it smoked my xp @ 2.5 ghz! =o

go for the AMD64 chip. Just went from a mobile XP running at 2.4ghz, to a 64 cpu Winchester running at 2.0 ghz - (same video card, ram, hdd, etc. New NForce3 MSI motherboard replacing an Asus A7N8X) and so far I am quite impressed with the performance increase in gaming (non gaming, not that big of difference, but gaming has a noticable boost)
