Heya, I am currently using an AMD 4000+ which is a socket 939 cpu, and i was wondering what my upgrade options are? I'm not too clear on whether or not the AM2 cpu's will work or any other chipset for that matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

am2 chips will not work in the socket 939 boards.
what kind of mb do you have?
an x2-3800 and up
opteron 165-170
i think those are really your only upgrade options, within 939

all socket 939 AMD cpu's will fit, up to the opty 185 and the fx-60.
those are THE fastest chips you can get for a socket 939:)

Ok, thanks guys. With the FX 60, i seem to remember it being an AM2 as well. So is that out of the question? I'm looking for the fastest cpu available for socket 939 to game on. I am using an ASUSTek A89-SLI mobo right now.

The fx-62 is the AM2 chip.
The last CPU's that were made are the ones i listed. Cant go any higher than those on a 939.
fx-60's are really hard to find for whatever reason and much more expensive, thats why i went the opty 185 route and dont regret a thing. Awesome CPU:D
