Hi. I'm looking for a socket 939 processor that is a good value, considering overclockability. Definitely in the lower quartile of price range.

Opteron 144 for single core about $140 shipped at Monarch or an Opteron 165 dual core was about $280 shipped at Monarch with a coupon... not sure if it's still that low.

I was thinking about getting the 146 from Monarch - comes to 158.90 shipped. Is this just a few Mhz faster?

Also, is there a coupon code for the 144 deal? I didn't see it in that hot deals thread. Is this a better value than the 146 at 160 shipped?

Also, what do most 144's hit as far as final clock speed? I will be cooling with an si-97a.

I just bought the 146 and the 144 from monarch. I got 2.8 stable on the 144 and 2.9 on the 146. I can't tell any difference in actual operation. If your MB will give you 312 go with the 144 , if not the 146 is still hard to beat at that price. This may sound like sacrelige but I'm waiting to see what happens when intel and amd duke it out with there next gen chips before I go dual core. ;)

The Opteron 144 deal doesn't need a coupon but the Opteron 165 deal does. The only thing you're gonna get with a 146 over a 144 is a higher multi.
