I'm new to Intel, been using AMD for the past I don't remember how many years. So basically, there's this new socket, 775. But I'm also hearing about dual-core CPU's and Pentium-M CPU's. Do these need new sockets or would they work with 775?

The Pentium M uses Socket 478/479. It's not, however, compatible with Pentium 4 motherboards and chipsets to a practical extent. You need a motherboard and chipset which specifically support the Pentium M.

You have to have a socket 479 motherboard that uses the i855 chipset. I don't believe there are any socket 478 mainboards that support it.

Are the dual-core CPU's named "Pentium M"?

dual core will probably be based on the LGA-775 socket, but using the Pentium M technology, lol if that makes any sense
