So my current processor is a p4 540, 3.2ghz Socket t (lga 755)...

I want to get a motherboard thats socket T that has 2 pcie slots on it (for sli)

will a dual core (755) processor work in every single socket 755? (more or less)

as it is right now I want to grab the motherboard with my current processor and throw my graphics card in the computer... and in about a month, grab a dual core (3ghz) p4... any help?

Dual Core processors only work on boards with the intil 945 and 955X chipsets. I'm not sure if the nF4 Intel edition supports dual core or not.

Just having an LGA775 board does not mean you can run a dual core setup.

=\ I was trying to find motherboards that support my current processor.. as well as dual core processor (with sli)... is there such a thing? Im having trouble finding it on newegg or anywhere else and there are only 3 that seem like they might work at best...

ABIT NI8-SLI
Gigabyte 8N-SLI
ASUS P5ND2-SLI

ALl will work flawlessly with your CPU.

is 775 um... 'backwards compatable' then? As in, if it supports dual core it should be able to support my 540? Cause it seemed like of those 3 motherboards they supported one or the other...

(thanks for the help)

The only mothreboard that I've found that comes close to supprting my cpu and a dual core cpu is this one ... It says for cpu type p4 prescott (current cpu)/celeron D... however it has the 945P chipset... would this support dual core?

The 945 and 955 boards will support your current 775 540 and the 8XX dual core chips that are on the market now, just pick one with two PCI-E 16X that you like.

The nForce4 SLI Intel Edition chipset supports all 8XX series Pentium D processors except the Pentium D 820.
