For anyone looking to do an upgrade right now, this seems like a really good solution. I recently purchased a Radion 9800 pro and don't feel like turning around and shelling out more $$ for a PCI-E card, and that is the main problem I see with going with one of the new 915/925 boards.
In addition, seems like this would also be nice from an overclocking standpoint. I see people getting insane overclocks with existing northwood 3.0 and 3.2's.

Thoughts?

Your title does not compute. 865 chipset mobos are socket 478 only. The 915/925 are the 775 pin package.

the 915 is the 775 version of the 865 and the 925 is the 775 version of the 875....... with several changes of course.

It's been rumored that mobo manufacturers are planning on pairing the 865 and 875 chipsets with the new LGA775 sockets. Only time will tell though. Hell, Gigabyte has a 915 board on sale that uses DDR but it's got the PCIe on it.

The 915 Chipset has support for DDR1,

I would be carful with these boards as they may not hnadle the heat or current draw well

Not true. Check out this board made by Soltek:

This is an 865 chipset based board with an LGA socket. My dilemna is that I don't have the money in my upgrade budget for a brand new PCI-E vid card. I'm very curious to see which other manufacturers go down this road and how this setup might be at overclocking.
