Socket 479 Question

This might be a newbie question but I searched through the other posts and was still confused. I am looking to get the AOpen EY855-II for a HTPC. It says it needs the Socket 479 cpu but when I search pricewatch and newegg, I don't see any processors. What am I missing?

Yeah, I realize it's a Pentium M, but when I search for that I only get results for socket 478. Is that the same thing?
 
yes. its just a pinout distinction that intel did in order to say that s478 p4's and pentium-m's are NOT the same and cannot be interchanged. s479 has 478 pins, with a slightly different pinout key so taht the two chips cant be fit into the other's respective motherboard.

Exactly,

Socket 478 = 478 Pins
Socket 479 = 478 Pins

The difference? Keying, but with an adapter from ASUS, you can fix that :p
 
BTW, do they sell the Pentium M chips as OEM? I can only seem to find the reatil boxes.
 
Not sure about OEM, but the Asus converter only works on select Asus 865/875 motherboards.
