Socket 478 - Worth it? I'm thinking about...

That's a great combo man. Depending on how far you can ramp that thing up i think you'll be very happy with it. Since you're willing to take suggestions ranging up to $500 for other combos, can i suggest you take the difference between the two you already have listed (~$170) and go for an entry level water cooling kit. Prescotts get real hot, and if you really want to be able to OC the hell out of them, water's close to a must have. No no no no.. no water cooling stuff... I want to stick to air cooling.. thanks though

The truth is that Socket T and the 2mb of cache has yet to show any huge performance gains over 478, so i wouldn't discount it so easily. IMHO, the main reason to go LGA775 is for PCI-e. If that's not a concern, s478 is going to bring you the better bargain. And for that matter, don't leave out the northwoods. you'd have a really kick ass system. Especially if you can ramp it up somewhere in the 3.6 to 4.0 range.
