Socket 478 Dell Dimension 4400 CPU upgrade

My current desktop has a 1.8ghz Intel Willamette Pentium 4 socket 478 mPGA CPU and I would like to upgrade the CPU and memory. Can I use a Prescott or Northwood in this i845D rev. 4 motherboard? Thanks

If I buy a 533mhz Northwood will it be backwards compatible to 400mhz bus speed.

Curerntly I have one stick of 256mb PC2100 and one stick 256mb PC2700, The Mobo allows 1gb and says that 266mhz DDR is the fastest it can use. What should i get? Thanks
 
i think because it is a dell, you will HAVE to match FSB speed, and also ddr 266 = pc2100 i believe, so a gig of pc2100 is the best you can do for that mobo. damn dells :(
 
Actually, the Intel 845D chipset officially supports only a single FSB400 speed. This means the FSB533 processors will not work properly on that Dell Dimension 4400 system -- and even if a 2.26GHz P4 were to work, it would have to run at only 1.7GHz because many i845D-based motherboards have only a permanently fixed 100MHz FSB (which is the true clock speed of FSB400). Same holds true with a 2.53GHz P4, which would be forced to run at only 1.9GHz on the 4400 if the system even boots up at all.
