Figured I might post this here, since the SMP subforum seems to be kinda dead and folk here seem to be knowledgeable about such things.
I got four ES 8-core Xeons (X7550, I believe) off of Ebay for $252 and am trying to track down a system to put them in. The only boards seem to be Supermicros, which are ~$2K on Ebay right now and unobtainable elsewhere.
I've been looking into surplus/barebones/slightly sketchy OEM systems; so far, I've come across the Proliant DL580/980 G7, Poweredge R810/910, IBM X3850 X5, Fujitsu Primergy TX600 and PrimeQuest 1800E2...did I miss anything? Is there any other manufacturer of boards for these beasts?
