Socket 1155 heatsinks fit Socket 1150?

Great. Now, are there any height differences b/w socket 1155 and socket 1150 CPUs? Could 'cause contact problems with heatsinks and the top of the CPUs.

Shouldn't be as I'm using a 1155 cooler on a 4770K running at stock speed now.

Strange. My Cooler Master Hyper-212 posts do not line up with my 1150 holes. I was hoping to reuse it.

1155 and 1150 use the same hole, so it should work.
As for tolerances, I'm not sure.

I put my legacy H80 on my 4770K last night without any issues.

You were probably using it on the Socket 775?

Oh crap. I feel like an idiot. For some reason I thought I had a 1155. Just remembered it was a Core 2 Quad (775). Doh!

Thanks. I guess it's time for me to go HSF shopping.

You can contact Cooler Master and they will send you the correct mounting bracket that you need. Im not sure what the cost would be but im sure it would be better than buying a whole new HSF.

Does 1150 have 775 mounting holes like some 1155 motherboards did? I know I can put a 775 HSF on my Z77 Extreme6

depending on how much material there is on the bracket, you might even be able to 'expand' out the existing lga775 holes to accomodate the 115x spacing. you'd only have to do about 1-2mm per hole. this is actually what cooler master does on their universal 775/115x/1366 brackets.

Depends on mfrs. Some put it there, others don't.

I wouldn't do that. If it's not there, don't void your warranty. You may even damage your board by destroying circuit traces there.

i meant modifying the heatsink mounting bracket, not the motherboard.

but i forgot the backplate would have to be modified in addition to the bracket and one will be more difficult than the other, so never mind.

The 212's bottom plate and mounting screws are designed for both 775 and 1155 - just move the screws to the correct hole and it should line up fine.

At around $30 MSRP, I might just pick up the newer 212 Evo. I am selling my old rig anyways so I'll just leave the Hyper 212 on the Core 2 Quad.

I was thinking about an upgrade myself. I have a C2Q I'm going to try and sell off but want to keep my Thermalright Ultra 120. Is there an "adapter" I can use to put this on a new LGA 1150 board?
