Soc 478 And 775 On Same Mobo

Nice article. Lots of changes in the industry these days.

New chassises, new PSUs, new CPU sockets, new memory types, new expansion cards...

Personally, I like it. Hardware has been stagnant when it comes to things like replacing PCI and the whole ATX spec altogether. I'm looking forward to playing with all this new stuff when I upgrade.

The whole socket 478 and 775 (and 754+939) on the same board reminds me of when some boards had both Slot 1 and Socket 370 back in the P3 era. It'd be an interesting value setup to get a board with AGP8X and PCI-Ex16 along with both 478 and 775, pair it up with whatever you can afford today and then later get a brand spanking new video card and CPU without having to switch boards again.

Nice article. Also interesting was the Gigabyte board with the option of using both DDR and DDR2. Good options are always welcome, especially as this round of chipsets require new everything (Mobo/CPU/RAM/GFX Card).

I doubt that they will be that popular. The price premium over a single socket board is probably significant and board layout also suffers as a result of the two sockets. It's a good idea though.
