I recently just won a x1900 Crossfire card on Ebay for 400 bucks with shipping.
Now currently I got a RD480 MSI motherboard with a single x1900xtx in it.
I also have a Enermax 550W PSU so I should be alright with the dual card configuration.

My question here is who has crossfire?
I don't see too many posts beyond single card tweeks and such.

I'm just curious about your experiences with crossfire technology,
How do your games run beyond the single card experience?

I mainly play CSS, Oblivion, COD2, CNC Generals, UT2004, Desert Combat, and occationally Battlefield for Middle Earth 2.

I had a Crossfire setup until this past friday. I went from a pair of X1600XT's (performance equal to a single X1800XL card) to a single X1900XTX 512mb card.

I really liked my Crossfire setup, it worked extremely well and I didnt have any problems with it. Only reason why I changed is because I ran accross a deal on the X1900XTX that I could not pass up. I sold my pair of X1600XT's (the cards are only 2 months old) to a co-worker who is building a Crossfire system based off my rig because he was impressed with it and decided that it was perfect for what he was wanting to do. I do eventually plan on getting a X1900 Crossfire Edition card later on down the road in a few months and bring myself back to being in Crossfire. I mean, I already have a mobo that supports it, why not use it. plus, I figure. a X1900 Crossfire rig will be pretty much able to handle anything I throw at it for a good long while.

Crossfire might not be as 'mature' as SLI in reguards to it being out on the market longer, but I don't see any not to use it. But then again, I'm a big AMD/ATi fan and would rather use a crappy ATi card than put a nvidia card in my box. (plus all my friends are nvidia fans and I like ragging on them about my ati cards that I've had over the years being better than their cards. And literally, on side to side compairisons of our rigs. I 80% of the time come out on top.except for my bud that's running 7900GT's in SLi...he's got me......well, until I get set up with X1900 Crossfire....heh.) I've already had two buds RMA their BFG 7900's. I've never ever had a bad ATi card. I've aways used mid-range ATi cards (9600XT's, X700, X800XL, and the X1600's) until finally saying screw it and picked up the 1900XTX. Decided it was time to play with the big boys.

I play mainly Everquest2 and the X1600XT Crossfire did really really well. EQ2 Graphics are spectacular and clean and use ALOT of shaders. Lots of light/shadow/shader use eyecandy. I have Oblivion, Tomb Raider Legends, F.E.A.R. and they all played rather well and looked very good with tweaked high settings at 1280x1024 settings on a 17" LCD with the X1600's.

if you are going to be running, a X1900 CE with a X1900XTX then you are way ahead of the game compaired to my situation and should be seeing some smoking benchmarks. As long as your other components and CPU are on the higher side of of the market then you are good to go. you're def going to be whooping up on the 7900 SLi rigs.

Of course.....all I've said is my personal opinion and like I've said I'm slightly biased toward ATi :p :D
 
Im running twin x1800 gto's and it runs great. Setting up can be a pain but once that is done there should be no problems. To give an example in WoW's Stranglethorn Vale even with 4x Adaptive AA, Temporal AA set to quiality , 16x AFHQ i still manage 40 fps and thats at 1920 x 1200.

I just paid for the card this morning and there's no turning back.

The components I have now is a RD480 MSI motherboard (Xpress200)
AMDFX53 or I could swap it with a 4200+ X2.
2GB Corsair RAM
and a Sony Trinitron monitor 2048 X 1536 @ 75Hz

I'm excited. Now I have to wait for this dude to ship it to me from L.A. to Chicago *sigh*
 
I do, with two X1900XT's and an Asus A8R32-MVP. 2x1gig of Ballistix, and Opty165.

BF2 (my fav game) is much more playable at my res of 1920x1200 than with my old 7800GTX SLI setup. It should be though, Im not comparing the two. With better AA, and AF, while still being faster. I didnt pay up much for it either, just about $130.

Same configuration except I have 2gigs of OCZ ram. Freaking beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Been running an X1800 Crossfire setup on an Abit AT8 32X motherboard for about a month now. It's sweet playing games on a Viewsonic widescreen monitor (1680 x 1050) with the graphic settings of the games somewhat turned up.
 
What are you guys planning for D3D10? Crossfire is damn appealing, but I'm thinking of holding off till the first refresh of R600, and maybe combining that with Conroe/DDR2 etc on a good Crossfire board.

I guess the one thing you guys should be really happy about (X1900s Crossfired anyway) is that you already know Crysis is going to rock on your current hardware!
 
I would get crossfire if only there were some good mobos for it. How I wish dfi released a crossfire board with the same OC'ing capabilities of the nf4.
 
If they found a way to run crossfire on an SLI board I may give it a shot.
 
Crossfire X1900's here. Your current PSU should be fine, I'm using an Enermax 535w unit with no problems.

There's a few gaming issues, but there's also workaround for most of them. I run all my games at 1920x1080 now with very good framerates and IQ cranked up, BF2 being the one I play most often. Even Oblivion (which I rarely play anymore since I finished the main storyline back in April) runs good at that res.

My biggest complaint with Crossfire isn't with the hardware, or game support, it's with ATI's CCC, which you MUST run if you want Crossfire. CCC doesn't play nice with my system, having abnormally long load times at XP startup.
 
Also Psychomatis here is an interesting thing. Supposedly most of the HIS and some of the Connect3d cards can be flashed to 16 pipes (Pure rumor so take it at face value). The trick is to keep the identification of the card to gto. The reason for this is to make sure if you have two, CCC will still enable xfire. I have also heard of ppl getting at least 700/700 off of some of these cards. At around 190$ these GTO's are really freakin nice.

DX10, and games for it wont for out for a long time. So long Im not even going to worry about it. DX9 games too a long time to come out after DX9 did. Its not like games will ship taking advantage of DX10 the day it comes out.

WOW that's good news. I've been trying to get one of my co-workers to buy a GTO card and motherboard.
With the dropping of prices, I see crossfire in his future.

I'm also happy my PSU will be more then adequate for the crossfire setup. I've heard horror stories about how much power these cards pull.

I'm most interested in Oblivion and I'm preparing for UT2007 which I know will rock soo F'n hard on a dual card setup.
I just want to be ready for the next round of games and technology.

Not problems setting it up at all. The sad part it I haven't played anythingon it since I built the rig...I restarted Half-Life2 and played that for all of 20 minutes (frame rate was awesome though :).

I only built an SLI system as the card were a gift.
 
DFI CFX3200, Opteron170, 2GB Crucial Micron 5bD's, Sparkle 650w, Audigy 2ZS, some WD HD's, BBA x1900 CF edition, Sapphire x1900XT.

Any more questions or should we just thump our chests? lol.

I guess I wish some games itmade more of a difference, but I think they are just a little slow out the gate, like hopefully Tomb Raider Legends gets a real profile soon. I guess because of tiling and super AA modes, ATi maintains crossfire works in everything, and hence no list of what's REALLY supported.

Now let me get this straight, more questions from the head of Psyko.

I currently am running the Crossfire Express 200 Chipset.
Now if I've read correctly, the mobo basically takes your 16X channell and splits it in half to make dual 8X channells.

So what makes the 3200 series motherboard better?
Also is it important that I upgrade as well to the 3200 over the 200 for any reason?
Is there any performance hit compared to the 3200 vs the 200?

Currently I've had no trouble with the Express 200 chipset. If anything I've had not ONE issue at all. I'm asking because since I've easily invested well 1500 dollars in video and processor hardware alone, might as well go for the gusto and throw in a better mobo. "When in Rome" *nudge* *nudge*

Although [H] Forum user opinions scream louder to help make my decision all the easier :D
Or I could just do NOTHING at allI guess the saying goes, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" and still cock-swing my hardware for the next 3-5 months until the better shit comes out.

On a side note... Last night I was playing some Battlefield 2 for practice for an upcoming LAN (www.millionmanlan.com). I had it running at 1600X1200@85hz on one card without any problems and 60+FPS smoothe as a bottle of Jameson 12 year. If this SINGLE card runs BF2 like this, I can't imagine how much more power do I need???

When you really think about it, we're continuiously upgrading each and every year. Or for some every couple of years.
Playing BF2 and Quake4 at MAX settings got me thinking...
There's that one split second when you crank all settings of a game to it's MAX to make it run like it looks on the back of the box. That split second makes you really realize how good we "enthusiasts" really have it. :D

The new 3200 series chipset (RD580) has dual 16x PCI-e slots and a much better ULi southbridge, which is a huge improvement. Overall it is a better chipset for motherboards.
