So where's the PhsyX drivers?

so tell me they make an 8 series card on pci so i can stick it in the spare pci slot and use as a physx deal.....they have to make something cool cheap worthwhile now right?
There's a Sparkle 8500GT PCI, but who knows how well it will even work with GPU PhysX. :p http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=SFPC85GT256U2P-PB&cpc=SCH

Other places that carry it: http://www.google.com/products?q=Sparkle+SFPC85GT256U2&hl=en&show=dd

You can buy an 8800 series card for that price.

Drivers?...
So where's the PhsyX games? ;)

As mentioned there's some games out now. I think if PhysX takes off you'll see more and more... give it time.

Where's the DirectX 10.1 games?;) We'll see those eventually too.

so the physx card is that much too in some places but id be interested if for my platform would a physx card or that 8500 be better, being the near same prices and all.

*edit*
because obviously im stuck on agp, and a 7950 series card.....so yea physx pci, or 8500 pci for my physx solution

Funny thing is that there are already more PhysX games out there (even if they are few) than there are DX10.1 games.

why not? you do know I am talking using the search on your computer right? just type in Nvidia physx and your pc will find. it only takes 2 seconds.

*sigh* i know where the hell the control panel is, im talking about the video card selection. i see no button for that.

sigh right back at you, asshat. Im trying to help you so stop being a dick. what I told you to do is the only way I could get to those physx properties because its not in the actual control panel. find it your fucking self now.

The help button on the last tab will tell you what to do:
Settings
The Settings tab contains the following options (see Figure 3):

Hardware Device Selection box:
No Acceleration: This option disables any acceleration of NVIDIA PhysX on GeForce or AGEIA PhysX Processors. All PhysX operations will be executed on the host CPU.

Please note that some applications may offer the means to override this setting.

GeForce PhysX: This option allows the GeForce enabled PhysX engine to use your GeForce GPU.

AGEIA PhysX: This option allows the PhysX engine to use your AGEIA PhysX processor.

If you have multiple GeForce GPUs that the PhysX engine can use, the “Select GPU for GeForce PhysX” button will appear. Click it to display the “GeForce PhysX Device Selection” dialog (see Figure 4). This dialog shows you which GeForce GPU the PhysX engine will use and allows you to modify that selection.

If you are having problems with multiple GeForce GPUs in Windows VistaTM you must extend a desktop onto the GeForce GPU if you want the PhysX engine to use it in Windows VistaTM.

If your GeForce GPUs are in an SLI configuration they will appear to the PhysX engine and the PhysX Control Panel Settings as a single GPU.

The PhysX engine will use an AGEIA PhysX Processor or an 8, 9, or GTX 200 series GeForce GPU with at least 256MB of memory.

Pack contents:

Full version of Warmonger

Full version of Unreal Tournament 3 PhysX Mod Pack (you will need Unreal Tournament 3 to play)

PhysX patch for Ghost Recon Advanced Fighter

Sneak peek at Nurien upcoming social networking service, based on the Unreal Engine 3 (with built-in benchmark)

Sneak peek at the upcoming game Metal Knight Zero (with built-in benchmark)

All new NVIDIA “The Great Kulu” tech demo

All new NVIDIA “Fluid” tech demo "

GEEZ, how big is this "pack" gonna be? I D/L the UT3 Mod Pack some time ago and it was around 400MB and I think Warmonger is around the same size. That plus the other demos will probably put the size over 1GB. Hopefully, you can download the components individually.

Hm, i find it interesting that you can dedicate one GPU for Physics only, but can it be different, let's say buy GTX 280, can i keep my 8800GT for Physics, and have GTX280 as a primary GPU would that work ?

Just keep in mind that there is some kind of bug with Vista that makes it necessary for you to connect a monitor to the second card you're using just for PhysX. Actually it's not a bug, it's some weird Microsoft WDM driver requirement that Nvidia are trying to find a way around (hopefully for the next release).

So you have to have something connected to your 'spare' Physx GPU card in order for it to work...

Yes, that would work...

Provoding your running these 2 things:

The 177.79 drivers:
http://www.evga.com/200driver/

And PhysX version 8.07.18

Yes, i have them already, thanks :). I was mainly asking because of my future mobo upgrade, because right now i have only single PCI-E slot, but now this changes things, so next time i'll go with two, provided Physics things takes off in a near future.

Excellent post... I missed that.

So currently, I need to have some type of tube plugged into my 8600 GT, when I install it into my system, even to act as a dedicated PhysX processor....

I will have to see what I can do about that. ;)

If anybody tries this, I would still like to hear your story.

I do find it odd that my 280, and my 8600 GT will be using the same driver now... :p

Theres console games on that list??
PhysX runs on Nintendo Wii? what the?

yes the physx api is free for developers to take advantage of to be run in software on the consoles along with the pc, versus paying to use havok middleware. hardware accelerated physics still remains the exclusive domain of the pc, at least until the arrival of the next generation of consoles.

FYI - If there are any C++ guy's out there, that is a member of the EVGA site too, my buddy is looking for some help writing a program to verify that ageia Physx is working on your system.

http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=492182&mpage=3

Sorry guys, I hit a roadblock, its really tough to find a simple PhysX calculation in the SDK, everything tries to render a box or something.

A friend is gonna help me out tomorrow, I *should* have it posted by the weekend.

If any of you know a tiny bit of C++, please download the SDK and help me out!

Vantage, and the demo's that are included with the PhysX program, test to see if you can run Nvidia Physx. A simple pass/fail test we could run, to insure ageia Physx is also working, I think would be handy... ;)

Ok, got my 8600GT to show up as a PhysX GPU. Now to install something that uses it. I think GRAW and RS:Vegas use it?

does anyone have info on how i could add another video card to my system and have that dedicated to the PhysX?

Yes, you can. You keep the most powerful card doing graphics, while the less powerful and cheaper, handles physics.

Ok, so I come back in and the card no longer registers as a PhysX processor...

It's working fine for me using Warmonger, and there is no mistaking performance difference in Warmonger. If you don't have PhsyX running it's a chopfest (also you get a message saying that PhsyX isn't available at the main menu). If PhsyX is running it's like buttah.....well for me anyways.

i tried the beta 177.x's for 2 days
had nothing but problems on my 8800gtx SLI rig.
playing a game would hard lock the system after 5 minutes 100% of the time
playing a dvd would hard lock the system after 20 minutes or so and playing a netflix instant watch movie would hard lock after 15 minutes (that last one started happening when i put the second 8800gtx in a couple of weeks ago).
so im really hoping the WHQL driver fixes at least a couple of these.

Yeah, on most LCD flat panels you usually have 2 inputs (A DVI and an analog VGA) so easiest thing to do is just use one of the DVI -> VGA adapters that come with every video card and plug the second card in that way. Or you could use an old 14" monitor, or god knows what... just as long as you plug something in there.

At least that's the information I got out of the release notes. :)

Hi all,

I have a few questions for you guys.

Q1: Does the Physx also work on laptops? I currently have a Dell Laptop with the 8600M GT Video Card.

Q2: I currently have a Nvidia 260GTX video card and also a 8800GTS 320MB video lying around. I do not have a SLi Motherboard, I do however have a P45 with two 16x PCI Express slots. So I can install both video cards in my system. Now can I use the 260GTX for graphics and the 8800GTS for Physx in my system or is that not possible without an SLi motherboard.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi all,

I have a few questions for you guys.
I have seen that the 8600M has been reported to work with GPU PhysX using the new driver.

GPU PhysX doesn't require an SLI board if you just want to dedicate one card to GPU PhysX.

it doesnt really mater when it comes to your 8600m though because you will lose way too much performance.you would do much better to play games to get the highest framerate instead of fooling with physx.

Ok, thanks that's good to know. I do also have a new Gateway P-6860FX which has the 8800M GTS video card. It should arrive by next week. I will test the Physx on that one than. Thanks

I used my 150 EVGA bucks I got from the price drop refund on my GTX 280 to purchase a 9600 GT for a dedicated physx GPU. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I really don't want to have to upgrade my PC P&C 1KW SR supply so I can SLI GTX's, this way, I can just plug in one 6-pin pci-express cable into the 9600 and I'm good to go.

Reading this preview at Guru 3D is what sold me on the idea.

I wouldn't be suprised if etailers start running out of the 9600 boards as this starts to catch on.

Great post thanks, it definitely answers all my questions.

BTW Do you think that my 600 Watt SLi PSU will be able to support the 260GTX and 8800GTS 320MB or do I need to get myself a bigger PSU?
