So where's mantle?

Oh please. I'm not sure what you're even trying to do here, because AMD most definitely did state that BF4 Mantle would be released in December. I get it, I understand why it was delayed, but what you're saying is outright false.

AMD even had a freakin' press release to announce the delay of BF4 Mantle which was supposed to initially be in December, don't play stupid.

Watch the full presentation, they say December to January.

Sure sounds like it.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7610/battlefield-4-mantle-update-delayed-until-january

They did state December for their 290X launch materials in regards to BF4 Mantle. They explicitly stated December via patch. Not Dec to January. And these press releases were issued everywhere to report the delay, even here on H. Oh but hey. AMD issued press releases about the BF4 Mantle delay when it wasn't really delayed. Yeah that makes sense. They issued delay press releases on December 30th just for the fuck of it.

Look man, I get why it was delayed the first time. We all get it. The game was broken. Not even trying to hate on AMD right now, i'm just pointing out that your statement is false - AMD did in fact make a promise of December via patch initially. I do hope BF4 Mantle is released this week just to end all of the speculation, the speculation is just getting old really. I want to see cold hard benchmark numbers as measured by independent reviewers, I will certainly be glad if that DOES happen in the next two days; benchmarks by independent reviewers will be good, I think most folks are getting sick of Mantle powerpoints. So put me in the camp that wants Mantle for BF4 to happen soon.

We are not talking about BF4, I couldn't give a single fuck about BF4.

We are talking about the driver.

I'm not sure why you guys want Mantle so bad and then turn around and saw you don't care about BF4....... Unless the Thief guys develop a quick demo and release at the same time you won't have ANYTHING to even play mantle with. I think with Dice's current issues it was safe to assume that their mantle patch would be delayed again which would probably delay AMD's drivers for the very same reason by some amount of time.

The API comes with the driver, thats all we care about.

people are engaging in revisionist history...AMD/EA said Mantle would initially be released in December via a patch...they never said December to January...they then announced a delay into January

And you, and the other nvidia trolls, are engaging in bullshit.

Yeah, AMD should really just take over BF 4's development by now, the stupid bastards. What are they, totally irrelevant with the game's patching?

EDIT: This also applies to Thief 4, Star Citizen and the Nitrous engine, which all are way way overdue by now. Way.

While true, they need to have something to talk about or show when it's out so while it awesome for those who just want to mess with the API for AMD they need to have something to point to in the moment. Like it or not Mantle is Tied to BF4 at least from the get go so I doubt we'll get one much sooner than the other.

Now Dice could REALLY drop the ball which would force AMD to either release or wait for Theif I guess, which would really blow. :(

Lol! This thread is so full of fail.

OP: Mantle is out already. For a selected group of developers. Mantle patch and drivers supposed to come this month, which is not over yet. Both AMD and Dice have dismissed the rumors of a further delay.

Nvidia users in this thread who doesn't also have a GCN card: You cannot use Mantle when it comes. It requires GCN based graphic cards. Mantle is not for you. Don't complain about slides and talk about Mantle, all you will get is slides and talk from reviews also. Perhaps a little butthurt. :p

Delay ragers: Dice, not AMD, delayed the Mantle patch and also expansion releases due to the more urgent need to fix the game. They made the right call. In fact, they should have delayed the game itself and released it when it was more ready. Its more important to fix the game for everyone, then to release a patch for some and still have a broken game.

so all that talk about it being open source and how AMD is not locking out its competition with proprietary tech (*PhysX*) are all BS?

If you hoped that the Mantle patch Dice is releasing this month would give you Mantle support for your Nvidia card, you will be disappointed.

Its never been called open source. AMD wants it to become a standard, but that doesn't even mean that Nvidia or Intel GPU's can use it in the future. For all we know, it can mean they release it to their partners in the hsafoundation first (Samsung, Qualcomm etc.). AMD doesn't need Nvidia or Intel to come aboard for Mantle to become a standard.

The Mantle abstraction layer isn't locked to AMD or GCN, so other vendors "can" implement support for it. But, for now, its AMD only.

AMD cannot make other vendors support it. Mantle has two components: A thin abstraction layer and a driver. The driver part requires intimate knowledge of the hardware, so AMD cannot support other vendors without getting that knowledge or the vendors making the driver themselves.

Even if Nvidia got offered Mantle, it doesn't mean they would choose to support it.

A cold day in hell happened once already for AMD.. That was Intel adopting their X64...

Never know, could happen with Nvidia too.

Man... Your personality dude... You are easier than a toothless 45 year old crackhead needing a fix. Sarcasm meter is still broken. I don't even own an AMD card and a good part of the reason why is shit like this. Dog shit drivers coupled with late fixes (if ever) and empty promises of "whats next".

I could really give two shits what this clown that you so dearly admire says. Hes exactly that, another AMD clown. How about he worries a little more about getting his product on the shelves for MSRP and have his vendors stop gouging (yes, AMD does have the ability to set a price and make vendors adhere to it).

No one admires anything , you just post stupid stuff because you are able to hit the reply button. Not saying that you can't express your views in which ever manner you post but contributing to this thread it is not.

Now why do i dare to say this because you push other people against their will into a corner where you loathe them because they quote some "clown" , while this thread is about the shit you and other people keep posting about sources and then making your own "observation".

The other mantle thread also kept derailing by people posting stuff that makes no sense and just for the sake of derailment doing it over and over. You can ask a mod to do his job but you can also expect something better of the people on this forum.

If you don';t intend to read or not able to grasp what is written why should others suffer from it?.

I'm 45 this year, sigh.

Toothless, not really at all though.

This line has me intrigued now:

Lastly, there's the enthusiast test-bed, running an Intel Core i7-3960X CPU, and dual Radeon R9 290X (CrossFire) graphics. The resolution stayed at 1920 x 1080, settings at "Ultra" preset, but the anti-aliasing was cranked up to 4x MSAA. The result? A stunning 58 percent higher frame-rates.
