When the 5850 first came out I figured I would wait a while for it to get down to $200 before I get it. Now it's 6 months later and with the Geforce 470 GT sucking, the price is not getting back to the $279 msrp much less $200.

With a 1650*1080 monitor, my 8800 GT do fine in most games. Even recent game like Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 run fine, but I just got Battle Field Bad Company 2 recently and had to turn the graphic to the lowest setting to get playable frame rate. I don't think I want to wait for another 6 month for the price to get to $250 so do guys think the price to decrease to $250 soon or will it stay at the current price for a while?

5850 will hit 250 when the 470 hits 250. without a fermi price drop, ati has zero reason to drop the price of the 5800s. Watch ati try to keep prices -$20 of Nvidia

Hopefully supply will have caught up to demand by then.

I was in the same boat as you. Had an 8800gt and it was fine until I tried BBC2. I watched the prices/stock for a while and was hoping that the Fermi would not suck and drive the price down. Finally pulled the trigger last week when newegg had an XFX 5850 for $289 w/ Free Shipping and then the Bing cash back was 3%.

You can get 5850's for ~$250 now, just keep your eyes open. I picked up two Sapphire 5850's three weeks ago for $255 shipped each. There was also a thread in the [H]ot Deals that had $230 OEM 5850's.

It was at CompUSA for $260 - 12.5% BCB.

Then they quickchanged the price to $270 and somewhere along the way my BCB didn't work. I guess I still came out okay @ $270, as the card runs great. Although there was some shadyness with the warranty info, but a lot of people got the cards at ~$230
