So, what's the current best gaming monitor at 38"-43"?

I've been rocking my 34" Acer Pred for almost 5 years now and I think it's time for a new 'main monitor'.

So which monitors that have 4k, g-sync, and 120-144hz?

I've been browsing the threads here, but can't get any real info on which ones are the best?

Thanks!

Suck it up and break through your size barrier, and pick up a 48" cx oled from lg when it launches this month or later. If your desk is too small, get a stand to put the tv on behind your desk, or get a larger desk. Nothing you can possibly buy in the gaming monitor world will come close to that. Nothing. Anything you attempt, will be a miserable, hideous failure of picture quality.

Looking for something like that as well. Although in my case this would be secondary screen for browsing, videos etc, so while higher refresh rate wouldn't be bad, I'm mostly looking for 40ish" at 4k with good panel.

So far first choice for me is this LG, it was recently on $100 off sale, so I'm waiting for that to happen again....

There are some Dells, but for a bit more and I'm not sure if it's worth it.

AOC - dont't know much about this company

ViewSonic, not if it is a good buy as I think it is fairly old release and could be missing some of the newer features.... but it is cheaper than LG above

LG's CX 48 is possibly an option, but it would be way too big to go above 38" ultra-wide and not dwarf it. Since I would be using it with mostly static images, I'd feel OLED would not be best for that and likely develop burn in. Monitor could be on easily for 12 hours a day with somewhat static images at least in parts of the screen. Not to mention it gets rather expensive at this point.

Pick your poison.

LG 38" 3860x1600 ultrawides (38GL950G, 38GN950, 38WN95C)
  • + Great size/res combo.
  • + Very fast response time for an IPS panel.
  • + 144-160 Hz full RGB.
  • - Fans on 38GL950G.
  • - No proper HDR..
  • - Low contrast ratio (like really low, as low as my 2014 8-bit TN panel).
  • - PbP mode only on 38WN95C.
Samsung 49" 5120x1440 CRG9 and G9 super ultrawides
  • + Tons of desktop space without need for DPI scaling.
  • + 120 or 240 Hz refresh rate (CRG9 vs G9).
  • + Good contrast ratio.
  • + PbP mode with 21:9 / 11:9 or 2x 16:9 options.
  • - VA panel so black smearing and not as good response time as IPS. G9 response time is unknown at this point but should be better than CRG9.
  • - Not all games support the super ultrawide aspect ratio without 3rd party patches or INI file tweaks.
  • - Slow startup and resolution switching (don't know if G9 is better at this).
  • - HDR is mediocre due to limited local dimming.
  • - PbP mode drops to 100 Hz (CRG9, G9 unknown) and disables Freesync and HDR support.
ASUS and Acer 43" 3840x2160 displays (ASUS XG483Q, ASUS PG43UQ, Acer CG437K)
  • + Tons of desktop space.
  • + Proper 4K resolution.
  • + Good PbP mode options at least on the ASUS models.
  • + 120-144 Hz refresh rate.
  • - VA panel so black smearing and response time issues.
  • - BGR subpixels make them a bad choice for MacOS uses and need configuration on Windows to counter it.
  • - Overdrive causes pixel overshoot issues.
  • - Mediocre HDR due to limited local dimming.

LG CX 48" 3840x2160 OLED TV
  • + Excellent HDR.
  • + Excellent response time.
  • + Excellent contrast ratio.
  • + Proper 4K resolution.
  • + 120 Hz refresh rate.
  • - Very large so needs to be put further away in desktop use.
  • - Burn-in is a possibility and is going to need some conscious usage changes.
  • - Limitations with HDMI 2.0. Custom resolutions only at 60 Hz, 4K @ 120 Hz is limited to 8-bit, no-HDR, 4:2:0 chroma subsampling. HDMI 2.1 GPUs should solve these problems.
  • - No useful PbP mode.
  • - Crap stand, wall mount or monitor arm highly recommended.
