so someone has a HD2900XT

Whys that guy at the hardware link blacking out the radeon name in 3d mark?? I think with the HD being left unblanked its pretty obvious what it is so why bother?

What's annoying is, I want to know what's under the hood...how many pipes? in what layout? what new AA modes?

...and for that I'll have to wait till monday? right?

Good that their out there but those guys seem to be scoring lower then those over at xtremesystems. CPU might have alot to do with that considering one is only at 3.0Ghz and the other is 2.4Ghz.

All of the info should be out by Monday. Hopefully a new set of drivers as well. Most of the people showing them already seem to think drivers are holding them back. No one has came out and said what issues with the drivers, just they think theyre holding them back.

That 3dMark06 score is not too bad but still a little lower than my stock 8800GTX. Keep up the good work ATI.

I said it before, don't equate that 3dmark number to gaming performance. You will be surprised.

Suprised as in I should not pay $330 for the 640MB GTS because paying the extra $70 for the 2900 XT will be worth it? (by worth it I mean will the 29XT own the 640 GTS?)

I think the idea was that the XT is faster in 3dmark but not faster in games.

I think it will take a few months for the drivers to catch up. We need Crysis benchmarks.

i think you're confused.

i think you've got ATi stuck so far up your behind you can't see the light of day. everything ive seen you post is pro ATi, BRENT tells you that 3DMark sucks, and youll be surprised when you see his real gaming numbers, and you retort with something thats supposed to justify spending 70 dollars on a card that from what Brent has said, isn't so great...

Heres to hoping it IS worth the 70. but i really doubt it at this point in time. and if this doesnt make it, god knows the XTX has to. and if it doesn't then there probably won't be an 8800 refresh :(

Ironically, G80/R600 might not be top of the line when Crysis ships.

I might becoming out in August so it these architecures still might be top on the line in 90 days. I doubt we'll see anything new in the GPU would till fourth quater in time for Christmas!

They need to fix tons of driver issues with Vista first!

Like most here I've owned and currently own both ATI and nVidia parts. But this is looking like last generation all over again.

ATI is late, and they don't still don't have a high-end part to compete with the GTX. Runs hotter, uses more power, wins sometimes, sometimes not.

That's just not cutting it. I want ATI to do well. Competition is good for consumers!

In order for AMD/ATI to compete, they really need to have BETTER stuff! Like the original Athlon, and then the Athlon 64. CLEARLY better than the competition. At the very least, be attractive in some way. The X2900XT is over all better than the 8800 GTS. But all nVidia needs to do is drop GTX prices, move the Ultra to GTX prices, and then little about the part is attractive.

I hope that what coming out is not as good as the ture story!

So ATI releases the cards more than a half year late, and now their customers have to wait even longer for those cards to perform?

That's reality. Nvidia is just now getting their vista drivers on even keel. I'm sure ATI has been scrambling to get it together but it will take a month or two. The drivers are raw.

Yea, but in Nvidia's defense, who games on Vista (if they do, then they're not that smart)? lol
