So, placed a order for 6870...

I will be running it in my 1090T with a 260.......wondering what to do driver wise...

I want to use the 260 to fold mainly, but if i play a game with PhysX i want to do PhysX on the 260....Which drivers do i need to look for to get that to work? Then, which order to install drivers? Currently have the nVidia 260's on the computer now, i'm assuming the nvidia drivers need to be installed first then the latest ATI 10.10's right ?

Order doesn't matter here (I installed my ATi drivers first). Here's what I did to get my HD5850 and my GTX260 playing nicely together (with working GPU PhysX).

1. Install Catalyst 10.10
2. Install Forceware 197.45
3. Apply Hybrid PhysX Mod v1.03
4. Install PhysX system software 9.10.0514
5. Apply Hybrid PhysX Mod v1.04ff

I'm double-patching because I mixed older Forceware drivers with the latest PhysX system software. I used Forceware197.45 because anything newer caused the fan on my GTX260 to act erratically (sometimes stopping entirely, allowing the card to get WAY too hot). If you want to use the latest Forceware instead, you can skip a step.

1. Install Catalyst 10.10
2. Install latest Forceware (currently 258.96)
3. Install PhysX system software 9.10.0514
4. Apply Hybrid PhysX Patch v1.04ff

hmm, i have 258.96 installed now, and no fan issues so i guess skipping that step will work for me (is the erratic fan thin isolated to some people ?)

It comes and goes at random. Might work perfectly for 5 reboots, then on the 6th and 7th the fan doesn't spin up, then on the 8th is works perfectly again. Some people are even seeing it manifest after waking a machine from sleep or hibernation. The one thing in common is that these problems all seem to start with the Forceware 256's, and using older drivers fixes the fan immediately.

I'm only running PhysX on the GTX260, and the latest PhysX system software still works with these older drivers. I'll stick with this setup until Nvidia can confirm the fan speed problems are gone.

Hmm, guess i am lucky then, i fold 24/7 on the card now, so i know the fan runs like it should, so ill give it a go with that...


does it mean that i can just leave my driver setup like it is now ? And just add the 6870 then the hack and 10.10 ?

Which slot should i put the nvidia into? The 6870 is goign to be the display card, obviously, and i have no preference where each goes, same to me, mabye not the same to the drivers

The drivers don't care what slot the respective cards are in. I have my HD5850 in my 1st slot, and my GTX260 in my second slot. Hardware PhysX working as expected.

hmm, ok, trying to figure out where the best spot is....i know when i ran my 9800GTX below the 260 with both folding the temps on the 260 got uncomfterably hot......it would be easier to leave it in the top slot but i guess ill put it in the 2nd one for coolign reasons....

(the 6870 will get 3d use for games only dont plan on folding on it yet)

You wouldn't put your primary display GPU in the first slot? Personally, I think physx is a joke and would never run it but, whenever i've seen or heard about the setup, its always the main card in the first 16x slot.

well its easy enough to try it both ways. i've only known a couple people to try for hybrid physx and both ended up with the nvidia card in slot 1. maybe it was coincidental and they were screwing up something else that caused it to fail.

Meh its a joke ya, but i have the 260 in the system regardless for folding....so why not use it
