Hey I am reinstalling my OS after a few months and am kinda being driven nuts by the amount of drivers on MSI's website for this z77a-g43 mobo.

they have a drivers tab which has:

Intel VGA Driver.
Description VGA Driver
Type On-Board VGA Drivers

Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
Description Intel Rapid Storage Technology for SATA AHCI mode.
Type On-Board PIDE/SATA Drivers

Intel Smart Connect Technology Driver
Description N/A
Type On-Board PIDE/SATA Drivers

Intel Rapid Start Technology Driver
Description N/A
Type On-Board PIDE/SATA Drivers

Realtek High Definition Audio Driver
Description • Realtek High Definition Audio System Software
• WinXP Driver Version: 5.10.0.6586
• Windows 7/Vista Version: 6.0.1.6586
Type On-Board Audio Drivers

Realtek PCI-E Ethernet Drivers (W8)
Description Network Driver
Type On-Board LAN Drivers

Intel Management Engine Driver
Description N/A
Type System & Chipset Drivers

Intel Chipset Driver.
Description N/A

--------------------------

I suppose Ill just download and install the chipset driver file. I just wanted to keep everything minimal since ive had stabiity issues with the last install. thanks for any input

The ones you'll need are:

  • Chipset
  • Management Engine
  • Realtek Ethernet
  • Realtek Audio*

*only if you aren't using a dedicated sound card

The rest are optional and needed if you're using that particular part of the board.

For example:

  • Intel VGA - you're using onboard video
  • Intel Rapid Storage Technology - using RAID but you could use it for AHCI (I find the stock Microsoft driver still to be okay in most situations)
  • Intel Rapid Start Technology - useless and can be disabled in the BIOS
