So, like NCQ doesn't work on my nForce4

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation.

It would hang on the Windows screen(the Windows XP logo with the blue bar) for ~3 minutes, and it happens only after I install the nVidia nForce 4 drivers. Disabling NCQ fixed it, apparently. No more error 51, no more hanging on boot. I'm happy.

I just find it ironic. Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 200GB 7200RPM with 16MB cache and NCQ doesn't work. >_<

Performance seems the same(about 4MBps lost in the built-in nVidia test, but I can't have everything, now can I?). Supposedly, I heard nVidia fixed this bug, or whatever the hell it is. Or is my drive hosed?

To add insult to injury, I think I just heard the click of death. It sounded like the drive was getting accessed, but the hard drive activity led wasn't on. It only lasted a few seconds if at that though.

[edit] Anyone know how to get PowerMax to recognize my SATA drive? Apparently, it doesn't like it when it's connected to Silicon Image or nForce4 SATA controller... I'm sorry, but that's all I have...

Well PowerMax (bootable CD) was able to detect the DiamondMax Plus 10 160GB drive i had on an Nforce 3 chipset board ok. However, that drive is DOA anyway...

From what i have seen there is very little benefit from running NCQ on most drives. Actually the only drive that benefitted from it was the 300 GB Maxtor 16 MB drive. This was from a Storagereview.com article.

Yeah well, I got the 200GB Maxtor 16MB one. :D

NCQ is a mixed bag, even on Maxtor drives, which are the only ATA drives that show any benefit at all from running it. Helps in Office, hurts High-End, and the games are pretty much a wash when SR tested the effects of NCQ on 16MB Maxtor drives. I wouldn't go to any great lengths to enable it, and I wouldn't be in any hurry to install the NV IDE drivers.
