So is eyefinity really worth it all in the end or is just fun for the first few weeks?

also, when you watch a movie and maximize in windows media player, does the video stretch across all three screens seeing that eyefinity makes it one large screen?
Same question for regular web surfing, does it stretch across all three screens?

Recently I have seen people starting to come to the conclusion that buying a single big-ass monitor might be a better idea.

It all comes down to individual needs and preference in the end.

From what i have seen, for Flight-Sims and Driving-Sims, Eyefinity is the way to go. For other PC gaming, not so much.

No single monitor is going to get your close to what eyefinity has for resolution. I've replayed many of my old games because of eyefinity, it's way better than playing on a single monitor!

yea i have to agree. it kicks the snot out of a single screen. you just dont get the same immersive effect. some games wont run very well with eyefinity but thats 1 of 2 reasons: 1. older games werent coded for this technology as its still pretty new. 2. shitty programming/development. the older games that you cant find an fov workaround for you can just play on the single display. driving games are just awesome. fps games are awesome as long as the fov works properly. im re-playing the half-life 2 games now as i didn't finish them years ago...dirt 2 and nfs shift are just awesome.hell even crysis works well . plus having 2 more screens to surf the internet is always a good thing. just be aware that the same rules apply for eyefinity as for a single screen. the more eyecandy you want, the more videocard you want. is it worth it.....yes imo it is. eyefinity is like the hot girlfriend. you get used to the way she looks after a while, but when you compare her to other girls you remember just how lucky you are....

It will be much nicer when tiny bezels become more common. I also tend to see larger sets of smaller screens coming to vogue as well.

It's nice, but it brings compatibility issues, bezel is distracting, and takes up a large amount of space that many folks can't spare.

It rates "good" to "very good" from me nonetheless, but it has some issues that keep it from "great" :)

IMO, while 3 x 24" LCD eyefinity setup is superior to a single 30" LCD, the ideal configuration would be 1 x 30" (2560*1200) + 2 x 20 " (1200*1600). Unfortunately, Eyefinity currently only supports monitors with the exact same resolutions.

Most of the people who complain about bezels are the ones that have never had first hand experience with eyefinity. They really are not a big deal at all and that is the only thing holding someone back from getting an eyefinity setup then they don't know what they will be missing.

Does this forum have to be an obstacle course of sexism for people referred by google?

Sexism: a term coined in the mid-20th century,[1] is the belief or attitude that one gender or sex is inferior to, less competent

If men on a bell curve always score higher in cognitive reasoning tests, maybe the word sexism should be changed to "reality".

It's also true that women usually score higher in linguistics. On the other hand, what good is being able to talk a lot without actually saying anything logical?

i prefer something closer to a 20-30-20 (PLP)

i don't want them all portrait or all landscape either way.

I agree one larger with two flanking monitors would be nice.

I'll grant you that the bezels might fade from consciousness to some degree. And yes I don't have it because every video or pic I've seen the bezels are so annoying. But I can agree that when you get fully engrossed in a game, often the little things fade from your mind.

:)

Yay for forward thinking. Someday you'll make some unlucky woman horribly self-conscious and self-loathing.

As far as eyefinity goes, try it. I run a setup with a 40" 1080P TV and 2 22" portraited side panels because I didn't care about eyefinity, but I could've gone with 2 more big TVs and some displayport adapters if I wanted to.

agreed...it's somewhere between good and very good but not great...I still prefer 1 24"+ LCD...less issues with game compatibility and bezels

most people don't even bring up the desk space issue which is a big deal...that shit takes up a lot of space and requires buying a new desk to hold all 3 monitors

i prefer something closer to a 20-30-20 (PLP)

yes Eyefinity really would be better served if it allowed different size/resolutions to be used...the side monitors don't need to be as good as the middle LCD so why do I need to buy 3 of the exact same LCD's for?

After seeing eyefinity for the first time in person recently , I come away impressed but with concerns. First off the support for games is still a bit lacking and even if most games support it the FOV is complete junk and takes retooling which isn't possible in all games.

The expense of getting into eyefinity turns most people off , you'll need decent quality monitors (even 3 2209W's will run you 900 bucks in the end minus tax and shipping) and while many state that viewing angles don't come into play I noticed while seeing eyefinity on TN panels I saw some viewing angle shifting so I would personally have to buy IPS monitors which jacks up the cost. Also consider the desk space .. 3 monitors even smaller ones take up alot of room and not everyone has those lovely corner desks that stretch across a portion of the wall.

After you clear those requirements you then really have to ask yourself if the bezel's will annoy you or not. I didn't mind that and infact while gaming I hardly cared about it at all , was far to focused on what I was doing in the game to give a damn about the bezels.

I personally will have to think it over more and consider the cost of 3 monitors vs the cost of one big display or even a projector that could produce a much bigger image without horribly increased cost. I suggest anyone interested in this setup first find a way to view it in person if you can .. otherwise view it from a point of logistics in terms of the cost versus the benefit.

I've only seen people who have never used Eyefinity say that. Regardless, a single big-ass monitor isn't competition to surround gaming in general. A bigger screen just makes things bigger, surround gaming (be it Eyefinity, TH2G, whatever) is completely different.

I'm loving it. The immersion is immense. If you leave Eyefinity enabled, things will stretch across all three screens, but why would you leave it enabled? I have a hotkey set up to enable and disable eyefinity, and it only takes ~1-2 seconds for it to switch between the two modes. So I enable it right before I launch whatever game I'm going to play and then I disable it after I'm done.

Would Eyefinity be good for Audio/Video production.
Im always looking for more screen real estate.

Can you use the display port and hdmi out at the same time for eyefinity?

Eyefinity was designed for game usage. however it works as a cheap option for 3 monitors just for regular desktop usage just perfectly.

You can however use the display port and HDMI port at the same time , you just have to remember that the HDMI port also counts as a DVI port so you only can have one or the other 2 active at one time so :

1 DVI + HDMI + DP
2 DVI + DP

So only 3 monitors are possible with the current cards. However there is a 6 display port card coming out very soon that can do a full 6 monitors at once.

Do it! NVIDIA will soon have multi-monitor support through SLI as well.

i think once the game developer start to design the game with surround monitor in mind then that would be real awesome

There already are. Dirt 2 and NFS: Shift both have excellent surround support. Proper UI scaling, centered HUD, etc... They aren't the only two, either. Head over to http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/ for detailed reports of how well surround gaming works in various games.

Not my fault if someone can't cope with the natural pecking order of the world. I don't walk up to a grizzly bear and start crying at it because I'm not as physically or mentally tough as it is.

I have to say the bezels do make some difference. Yes you get use to it but it takes time. My first setup was with 3 LP1965 because I had 3 of them already. The bezels on those monitors are only 3/8 of an inch thick. I didn't have no problem ignoring the bezels. Then I purchase LP2065 for my eyefinity setup. These monitors have 3/4 inch wide bezels. It took me a little longer to get use to the wider bezels. Honestly I really never totally got use to it unitl I installed the 10.3 beta drivers. Now that they are not trying to match the image up with an inch and half space between, it is awesome and they don't bother me at all. I even watch movies now on my eyefinity setup.

It'll be worth it once we don't have to buy the adaptors! Which is I think this year too?
