so im going to college. i built a decent shuttle. 3.2 HT, gig of ram, x1600xt, good bit of hd space. i dont want the space of a tv, so i thought hey, ill just toss in a tv tuner card. did some looking on new egg, and i dont even know where to start. i found more then 2 dozen cards in my catagory. and it was a lot to choose from.

so what i want:
watch some tv at decent quality, not too picky about quality, just decent. (i torrent cam rips of movies, im used to low quality)
standard single pci slot
remote and FM tuner are a big plus
im not too worried about recording

basically what can i get for under $60 that will get me decent tv on my lcd? ide like remote and fm, and ill obtain some tvr software later.

the dorms have some sort of satalite that feeds in through coax to the dorm room.

Thanks for any help!

This should fit the bill. The software kind of sucks, a lot but it's a capable card for the price.
The Leadtek TV card kind of sucks too, unfortunately.

OP for the money you're best off getting one of the hauppauge pvr-150 variants. The pvr 150 is probably the most highly recommended TV card in recent times.

It is well worth spending an extra $10+ for, and it's a well supported card.

I know its higher than your price level but the ati theater 550 has superior image quality, compared to the pvr150 so you may want to consider that as well.

the quality difference between the ATI and hauppauge is subjective and also depends on the source. The Hauppauge doesn't do as well with analog sources, but with a digital source like a dish, it is tough to see a legit difference for most people. Keep an eye out for used hauppauge 150 cards. they can be had for $50 easy.

thanks everyone! i still dunno what im gonna do, but im sure ill figure something out, i dont know what the signal is, but it does come through coax cable.

i have a shuttle, so i only have one free pci slot, and the hapague and the 550 both say i need a sound card, im happy enough with the onboard sound, do i rle need a pci sound card for it to function with sound?

You want to hear, right? That means any sound system. You're fine... don't worry about it.
