I was banging my head on what to get headphone wise

and ultimately i decided on this stuff which i think will hopefully be good for now


i kept eying the ATH-AD700 with great interest... I got it cause i wanted it .. i will game with it when the wife isn't in teh living room

and I also ordered a pair of JVX RX700 headphones...which i will use when she is present in the room.... Much like my gut reaction to liking the AD700s I was just drawn to these headphones.. and I'm excited that i will have both of these headphones.

also since i saw them for $13 I ordered a pair of sennheiser HD419 headphones..which I don't know.. what teh hell i will do with .. maybe take them to the office but for $13 I decided WTF and ordered them anyways.

I also ordered a FiiO E9 headphone amp/(OOOPS... )dac (never mind) which I believe will make my life easier and will just be nice to have in general

I think i will hook up my SA-S3 amp to the line out and thus I won't have to enable my onboard audio

Xonar DG > EiiO E9 > SA-S3

I'm looking forward to having new toyz to play with... if I decide I don't like any of the headphones my birthday is soon enough ;) and I can ask for something else.

You know the E9 is just an amp, right? The E7 is the DAC - and if you are using that, you wouldn't want to use the Xonar. Actually, the Xonar DG has a headphone amp that will drive both of those headphones just fine, so you really don't need the E9 at all.

You'd want to either go Xonar -> headphones, or Xonar -> amp (E9/SA-S3) -> headphones, or E7 -> amp (E9/SA-S3) -> headphones.

that is fine.. i will go xonar E9 (analog out / line in) and then line out to the SA-S3


atm i have been having to use a splitter or unplug the headphones from the back of the computer to switch to speakers which is a pain in the ass

so... while I didn't entirely realize the E9 needed the E7 for the USB dac functions..(I am soooo dumb sometimes) i think it will still be fine

and it will give me an excuse to buy the E7 later I guess ;)
 
the are here.. (well the AD700 and RX700 headphones arrived today)


like both of them... the cables are super nice and thick on both of them.. considering the RX-700s where $35~ they are sooooo nice

I have both those phones. The rx700 have to be the best value phone ever imo. They really fantastic and could pass for 3x what they cost. Thru get even better with some burn in and have a more nuetral sound compared to the AD700s and slightly less soundstage for gaming. However the midrange on the rx700s is phenomenal IMO. With all the phones have had they stick stuck out. When I first played bf3 with them I was hearing certain things for the first time it seemed. Even after using AD700 and Samson Sr850s which you should try too OP for $49 they are another diamond in the rough so to speak.
Rx700 have to be the most comfy to.
 
i think i make pretty good choices just played some counter strike source with the AD700s very nice
 
Yes you picked some good headphones, I haven't got to listen to a pair of rx700's but the rx300s are a good set of headphones so the rx700s have to be good. The senn's are good also.
 
i had RX500s which the RX700x make look and sound like poo (but the 500s where not bad)

the RX700 seems to be the headphone bang $ champion of the world amazing for $35~


the senns have not yet arrived.... i'm going to be hella pissed if they wind up being my favorites since they where only $13 (refurbs)...lolz
 
Lol, I think the 300's = 500's, 2 complaints one is the headband is uncomfortable and they creak whan being adjusted.
 
sorry to revive this old thread, but what do you think about the hd419? especially gaming? i am currently using the rx900 but they get uncomfortable after a while, when playing some bf3, and was looking for a cheap comfortable pair. are they comfortable? can you compare them to the ad700?
 
Senn makes some of the most comfortable headphones out there, but if your issue with the RX700 is simply that they get stuffy or hot, you'd probably have the same issue with the HD419 since they're also closed... It's just the nature of closed designs.

Grab a pair of Razer orcas they are pretty damn good. And very comfortable.

They are open, Have velour pads and sound great. They are a little more expensive.
 
the HD419 headphones are comfy... but i haven't used them much (if i'm honest I had sort of forgot about them..they are in a drawer

I think however mannyman is right they may well have the same getting warm issues.

the other problem w/ the HD419 headphones is the cable is very thin (and short) in my case (if i remembered to dig them out of the drawer) I could plug them into my FiiO E9 and use them w/ my pc ok but the cable is very short and depending on where your rig is u might need an extension cable.


the build quality of the (very inexpensive) HD419s is markedly lower than the RX700 or the AD700 headphones I have. but they seem pretty sturdy i guess.. the sound was pretty good (as I recall...I will have to try them again... I haven't honestly used them since the beginning of this thread actually).
I'm a little busy these days have to leave shortly to take my wife to chemo...so yeah.. some other stuff going on right now, so I had put the HD419s aside and they got sort of lost in the shuffle.

The AD700 headphones look awesome and are comfy (but the plush pads get hotter for me than the RX700s .. however they are TERRIBLE for music...and AWESOME for games (unless the mrs is in the room then I can't use them cause they leak sound in and out (open design).

I hated these, they just didn't have any presence. Treat yourself and get some Sennheiser 595 or 598. They are a good combination of sounding pretty damn good and not breaking the bank. They will stomp all over the JVC and AD700.

No way! A $225/$256 set of cans will "Stomp all over" A $32 Pair? No way :eek: :D

I would compare a lot of $32 phones favorably to crap like Bose. :p so nyah.
besides, if you want headphones you buy right around christmas, any other time of year is a rip off.

Yeah my RX700's piss on everything Bose, Skullcandy and beats hold dear.

Yes prices do drop about 20% on average around christmas some times more.

There's a simpler way of solving that issue: use the 'No Sounds' setting, and turn off the 'Welcome Screen' sound too. That way you can minimize the complexity and turn off the onboard audio. It won't make the computer any noticeably faster, but I do it too for some reason. :D
 
By using the 'No Sounds' setting, you are disabling all Windows sound effects. Windows should not make any sound under any circumstance, and I too have observed this while using the setting.

Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Sounds -> "Sound Scheme" = No Sounds.

Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Sounds -> Uncheck "Play Windows Start Sound."

first lol...yes I too am shocked that $250~ish Sennheiser's will "stomp all over" my $35~ish RX700s, but I will make note of his suggestion ... maybe later I will get a pair of those.


and also thanx for the kind thoughts for mrs atarione... she is doing pretty well and the prognosis is pretty good.

yeah this is what I do and windows doesn't interrupt the music this way.
 
Thanks for the clarification, guys. I'm sticking with 2 sources, but you prompted me to find the UAC setting in Control Panel\Sound.
