Wish I could hit a gig but I think Windows 8 overhead is to blame here. Nevertheless, it's 40 mb/s faster for read times than it was with Windows 7!
 
Yeah I am scratching my head a bit here, but it's about the same as what others have been getting with these drives (Samsung 830's).

If someone has an idea of how to get increased - I am all ears. This is in an MSI GT683R laptop - so that could be playing a role as well.
 
Try running one thread of Prime95 in the background during the benchmark. If your CPU was throttling (C-states) and slowing the benchmark, Prime95 should prevent that.

If background activity does not help, then it probably is a fundamental limitation of your laptop or your RAID.
