• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

So did another database move happen?

I thought people knew that this site is FOR PROFIT. How are they making profit? Us... duh. We're looking at the advertisements and paying the money to buy things. This site is ad-driven. This is not a non-profit site. You people act like like Kyle is running the site because he loves us and the world. The truth is, of course, he wants as many users on the forum as possible.

Some of you need to get off Kyle's penis. Seriously. Some of you are blindly defending them for something that should not happen if done professionally. Having a big forum is not an excuse. Anandtech is twice as big as Hardforum and they never have any rollbacks or database errors.

If we don't criticize them, they won't learn. They just need to get better at keeping the forums up and maybe fork the money over to hire a network specialist.

It's ad-driven to make it free for us. Since we're the vehicle for income, the inverse of your point is that Kyle is driven to keep the forums up, so it's virtually guaranteed that he and his staff are doing their best. Us whining about it doesn't help one bit. How would they never learn? Learn what? I think it's safe to assume they know how important uptime is.

I don't know what porn you're watching, but some of us are choosing the grateful route, while others are taking this as an opportunity to cry like disrespectful babies.

Well the post by Kyle indicates that they *have* sought help from a MySQL pro. Kudos to them for having the balls to know when they're in over their heads. I'm a systems admin guy and know how baffling and frustrating DBs can be. I'd be lost without the staff DBA.

Forum operations are highly complex, and even the best in the business have problems once in a while.

This forum has been quite stable throughout the years, with only a few glitches here and there. Losing about 10 days' worth of postings isn't too big of a loss when you look at the big picture.

Yes, people lost posts. Yes, there are some people who have a legit gripe about having lost a lot of PM's, especially when it comes to FS / FT matters.

However, it's a simple thing to have your transaction partners send another PM. If they don't, then simply re-list it. This forum is large enough, that if you aren't some sort of crook, if your price is fair, and if you're polite, then you shouldn't have any problems selling it.

I'm trying not to be an ass here. I'm trying to be realistic.

The forum has been pretty stable in the past. However, in the past year or so, it's gone down for days at a time. It's been down many, many times more hours than every other forum I frequent. None of those forums (and some of them are at least as large as this one) have ever in several years been down for more than a day at a time.

Kyle and the current crew are not among "the best in the business" at managing vbulletin or MySQL. That's why they asked for external help last time and finally went out and got some help this time.

I hate to be contrary, but losing 17 days worth of posts and PMs after having been down for a couple of days would get most sysadmins and web admins fired. If I lost 17 days worth of anything here at my job, I'd be sent home immediately.

Don't get me wrong; I really, really appreciate the effort they put into this forum. It's a great place. I'm very happy that they finally bit the bullet and went to a professional. It's obvious that they needed to, and it doesn't do anyone any good to just say "yeah, well, days of downtime and the occasional wipeout of two weeks' worth of data is no big deal." Obviously the admins know this, which is why they're no doubt busting their asses trying to get all this to work. If I read Kyle's post correctly, they're on top of the situation now and it probably won't happen again.

All that said, Thanks guys.
