Re: C&C:G2
(trailer, Bioware studio, catch up on news, etc. etc.)

As someone who played Red Alert back in the day, then bought Tiberian Sun and promptly quit the series...

Am I missing anything? Have any of the previous games been worth it to go back and play?

Yes, you are definitely missing out. Red Alert 2 is one of the best RTS games ever made, C&C3 is excellent, and Red Alert 3 is pretty good. C&C4 is the only game that I would classify as truly bad. I can't speak for the original Generals since I never played it.

I loved both Generals/Zero Hour and C&C 3, especially Generals. The additional unique generals that came with Zero Hour added more variety to the game, you can play as a general who focus on stealth, or super weapons, etc etc.

I really hope they do that again for Generals 2.

RA2 - Amazing game that I put a absurd amount of time into
Yuri's Revenge - expansion for RA2 that was also pretty good but I didn't play as much.

Renegade - The C&C FPS game, single player is meh but multiplayer is great, I still play the game.

Generals - I only ever played a few times so I can't really say.

Tiberium Wars - Great game, took me a little while to like it since it was so different from RA2 but is really good.
Kane's Wrath - The stuff that it added to mulitplayer was awesome. I played a ton of games with friends. Playing with a friend or two against 4 or 5 Brutal AI's was awesome.

RA3 - pass, can't say I liked anything about the game.

Tiberium Twilight - some how even worse then RA3. At least RA3 has some fans, I don't think I've ever seen somebody say something good about TT.

I love the games produced by Westwood, so far EA fucked up the series when they acquired it, and if EA is going to make Generals 2 just as bad as C&C4, they can go die.

Red Alert 2 is by far my favourite C&C game in the series, I love using those Allied Prism Tanks.

RA2 was made after EA bought Westwood.

I spent hours on red alert 2, great game. I loved taking my enemy down with nothing but upgraded infantry (the kind that you could have dig themselves in). They got mighty effective at their highest ratings, so did the snipers... Now I wanna play! I may have to go find my copy of the game!

Well I guess after Diablo III this will be the game I'll be playing on a 30" and GTX 790?

I played the demo/beta for this game like crazy. It was a ton of fun although there were some minor balancing issues that should have been worked out. Are the still servers for this or are you playing LAN matches?

Generals and Generals: Zero hour expansion was perhaps one of my favorite RTS games ever. My buddies and I used to LAN up 4 computers at my place and get into some extremely epic 2v2 and then 4v4's over the online match-making. I will definitely be grabbing this sequel.

I wish I could tell my computer to install it right now, so I can play when I get home from work. I need teamviewer to be running on it, lol!

The servers are still up. Theres not a ton of people playing but you can always find a game. And I think they got the balance pretty good. Its not perfect and some maps favor one team but it mostly comes down to who has the most teamwork.

My favorite C&C game was the original from Westwood back in '95.

From the trailer of Generals though, this could be promising.

I like the original the best, but all the c&c games up to and including RA2 were good. I feel personaly, that after RA2 they were all rather crap.

Generals was pretty good. Really C&C4 is the worst of them by far.

Agreed. Generals was good for no frills hop in, kill some people, hop out grab a beer and some pretzels type game. It had strategy sure, but it was mainly just simple and fun. While I do like hardcore RTS games like Close Combat series or possibly Combat Mission and such, Generals was good just for a quick hop in, play, get out type fix.

They weren't bad after RA2 (4 aside) the problem is people are constantly comparing the games to it. RA2 is the one of the best RTS games ever made, even to this day. It's not something that can be repeated often and only with a great deal and skill and luck.

Seems like I missed alot, I am like the OP I gave up after RA and Ts. Might just scoop up RA2 or Generals if I find it in the discount aisles..

Just pick up First Decade. Should be fairly cheap now days and has everything from the original to Generals.

No. I was a huge fan of TD/RA and ran fan sites back in the day and worked on mods/maps. Hurrah for free copies signed by Westwood Studios people? Anyway TS was a huge disappointment for me as well - RA2 turned a lot of things around such as better music like the first two and improved performance/gameplay over TS but the cutscenes/story was absurd unlike the previous games and that ruined it for me. Everything since then has been progressively worse through Generals, TW and TT. Maybe Bioware's new studio can turn things around but I'm not getting my hopes up.

RA2 may be one of the most fun games in the series, but it's also one of the worst balanced ones. Soviets in the expansion were useless for anything other than spamming their basic tank.

The original is one of those historically relevant games but my god, if you've played it recently, it didn't hold up well to the test of time.

I still play it once and awhile - the only thing I miss from newer games is having unit queues for building. I honestly like the graphics and art better than 3D RTS games these days.
