I've installed SnapRaid to Ubuntu 12.04. I'm currently using a 3TB parity drive+ 2TB + 1.5 TB drives for my pool.

I am also using mhddfs to for the virtual pool. I'm using Samba so my Windows computer can mount to it. Not too many issues setting anything up.

Currently copying a bunch of TV shows to the pool - getting between 70-90 MB/s throughput - not bad! I kept reading how slow mfddfs can be. This is faster than my old Drobo and definitely much faster than the unRAID server I am playing with. (Must say the unRAID is easier to set up. I'd recommend you be a little familiar with Linux before installing either. That said, there are tutorials on installing both of these.)

Just curious how many people are using mhddfs vs AUFS. I read pros/cons of each and decided to go with mhddfs for now.

Thanks drescherjm for the recommendations. I'm liking it so far.
