Typical day for me, got my new 300gb SATA drive and popped it in the PC. Installed the cable and was routing it to the mobo when it pinged and snapped the connector on the drive - ARGH!

I cant return the thing as they will blame me for rough and ready handling (what stores do best) and I have the bit that broke off still stuck in the end of the SATA cable so what I was thinking of doing was glueing the cable on to the drive as it all still fits snuggly together and doesnt wobble about.

Only problem is I dont know which way round the cable goes in now that the plastic L shaped bit has come off! Its not like an IDE cable where I can just check for pin 1.

Does anyone have any advice, a close up photos of an SATA connector on a Seagate Barac 300gb SATA drive? I dont want to blow it up or worse, my PC.

Thanks for your help guys, I really need it this time!

Regards,

Rikki

I had the same thing happen to my hitachi 120gig. You should be able to match the L up by looking for the snap marks. I was never able to remove the piece from the sata cable, but I just carefully plugged it and everything has been ok. I just try not to unplug it too often. Whoever designed the connector should be shot, its way too small and fragile.
