I have a gigabyte gak8nf-9 board. it uses the Realtec ACL850 onboard sound.

When im playing some games, (or actually all of the games) I get a loud snapping and popping sound when things start happening.

If i move my mouse over the menu buttons in gta slowly, it plays the button sound normally. If I move the mouse fast, the button noise goes fast but I get a loud crackle and pop. very loud.

Also in UT2004 when im shooting guns off fast, if there is more than one sound playing at once I get the crackle and pop. Same goes for mafia when im driving around in cars and firing guns. The car engine noise has that crackle and pop to it, so does shooting guns.

Im using windows xp. Any ideas? My old 1992 soundblaster card did this in games on my old computer too.
 
Would these two sound cards happen to have been plugged into the same device (reciever, computer speakers, etc...)? Maybe they are clipping the input signal to that device? Does it happen at all volumes (on the sound card itself)?

We have a old piece of crap Dell at work that makes a high pitch background noise whenever the mouse is moved around.
 
I only have one soundcard in my computer. It does it any time two sounds play at once.
 
fwiw, I have the same issue with my Realtek chip on my DFI board. What I ended up doing was raising the master volume in the sound control panel to 3/4 max, and then using the volume controls on the speakers to adjust volume. The volume used to be set at less than half (actually...1/4). Odd that raising that fixed the problem for me though...but since I've done that, I haven't heard a single crackle or pop since.
