I just plugged in an old computer (p4, antec sonata, ati 9800) for my kids to use - I got everything hooked up, stuck in a new n-band wireless card etc.

When I turned it on I saw a bright flash and heard a snap sound. The flash came from the top of the case and I could smell a bit of magic smoke.

I did a carefull search of all the wiring and saw nothing amiss. So I tried again with the same result, another flash and snap sound.

I'm guessing it's the powersupply but since this has never happened to me before I'm wondering what do I do next? Or is it too late?

Go down to Office Depot and pick up an Antec Basiq 350W and pop it in, see if It powers up.

Take out the PSU, and smell it. If it smells burnt, it's dead. If it doesn't, chances are it's the mobo. I'd say a PSU failure is most likely though.
