SN25P network issues

My primary PC is a SN25P and has run flawlessly for nearly a year and a half. However, for the last 2-3 weeks I've had network problems. At first I thought it was my gigabit hub going flaky. Then I got a call from a client that I built an Opty165/SN25P for earlier this year that was having the same issues.

Both Shuttles will connect at gigabit speed and transfer small files no problem. But since this issue arose neither will transfer a large file, say 5mb or larger without choking and completely dropping the network connection. They were both set on autonegotiate for transfer speed and I've tried setting both at 1000mbps manually, doesn't work. The only thing that will work are 100mbps speeds, set manually. They'll then stay connected and transfer multi-gig files at 100mbps all day long without disconnecting.

There have been no BIOS updates recently, and I've tried the latest nVidia drivers. The only thing both machines have in common would be any MS update.

1. Are any other SN25P (or similar Shuttle) users having this issue too?
2. Have you been able to solve it? How?

Yes, I have an Sn25P also and I've found that the gig connection on it to be flakey. I thought it was the new gig switch I bought but swapping back to the 10/100 it's solid as. I'm as confused as you are.

Well I have some issues with on board net of a SN25P to.

With my new network and new ISP provider onboard LAN is out preformed by my laptop

I have had some issues with online gaming. Also some issues with LAN gaming. Some lag I couldn't explain.

Next to it my ADSL 2+ connection gives me lot's of problems. Simply I'm to far away from telephony switch.

So now I have cable to. Although both connections are 20 Mb only cable connection really makes that speed. Next to a speed ADSL2+ also gives me only like 700 connections per minute. Cable gives up to 2200 connections per minute and much lower ping.

So now I've tryed few routers and switches to make optimal network.

So I found that my Laptop makes more connections then my SN25P. Though Lap aint that bad (Duo core 1,73 GHz, 2 GB DDR2, 120 GB Sata2 HDD, ATI X1600 128/512 MB, Broadcom Giga link, a/b/g Intel wireless etc.) it should be slower then My gaming rig.

On laptop though number of a connections is jumping around from high 16xx to 22xx but mostly stays between 1850 and 1950.

I've tryed new chipset drivers, installing Marvell miniport driver. I've tryed 3 different routers and few switches. I've tryed even stupid and wrong settings of a network card but nothing helped.

Now I run a Linux box as a router. I've tryed many network cards till I've got best results. Still no improvement SN25P does not go over 1500 connections per minute.

Some people told me that chip used by Nvidia is low end of a Marvell and that it is passive chipset. Well even old 3c905 off loads CPU. 3com also uses Marvell for 3c2000 but then active chip with 128KB buffer and it works better.

There are nice PCI-e 1X from Broadcom and from Intel that would doo much better job but I use VF900 on my 7900GT

So only USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapters are option though those aren't performers.

So I'm stuck with onboard LAN card.

It's funny but one of my old PC's with XP 2500+ and 512 MB and 4600 geforce with 3c905BTXM has lower ping in games then my SN25P

Nummber of connections per minute ain't only negative thing on that onboard card. Much worse is that unexplainable lag wich makes difference between frag or death in online FPS gaming.

If anyone knows some good drivers or tips feel free to post, input is realy welcome

P.S. I'll try to use one of a 100 Mb switches and even a wireless connection to see am I getting more connections per minute.
