I'm unable to receive SMS to my Google voice number (the texts just never arrive) as more and more places force two factor authentication.

Is it possible to add a second SIM/eSIM "sms only" something or other into an already unlocked but formerly t-mobile Galaxy S24U? Something cheap of course.

All prepaid eSIMs I've seen are either data only or a number with data.

Google Fi is $20/month + $10/GB, so $20 if no data used.

I would figure out the Voice texting issue though. I use Voice pretty much exclusively for 2-factor auth, and to keep my US number while I'm stationed overseas. It occasionally nags me to tie my carrier number to it, but I can always skip the prompt and keep using it.

For $10/month or $96/year ($8/month) you can do the US Mobile Light Plan which gets you 2GB of data and unlimited talk/text. You can have it on any network that works best for you. AT&T = Dark Star, Verizon = Warp, T-Mobile = Light Speed. eSIM is supported and if you don't like the network you picked you can do a "teleportal" to another network, keep your number and existing usage and it costs one time $2 charge per time you do that.

Tello (T-Mobile) with no data, 100 talk minutes and free texting (don't think this works for sending/receiving MMS) is $5/month. It's $6/month for 1GB data or $7/month for 2GB data, both with the same 100 minutes of talk.

The unlocked Galaxy S24 Ultra will be compatible with pretty much any carrier eSIM, even most MVNOs on any of the three major networks.

I actually just switched to US mobile from Verizon prepaid. I've had some issues with data throttling in one game primarily, but other than that it works great.

I can always VPN into my home router to speedup that game. But for 25/month it's saving me like 200/year vs Verizon.

Tello will give you no data, and unlimited Texts for $5/mo
