SMP vs 2 instances-which one?

Hey guys, been running a new E4300 at 3.3ghz for about a week now, I'm using 2 instances of the console version, and my production is at roughly 600ppd.

Someone keeps telling me to grab the SMP client instead as it is much more efficient-is this true? What should I go with?
 
Well - you will definitely get more PPD out of it. The proteins for the SMP clients have some high points. Others should be able to chime in on expected PPD for your CPU. The catche is that it will run in a window as it's not really intended to run as a service although some have worked around that. It's also very sensitive to being stopped and restarted.
 
I see. I went ahead and downloaded the SMP client and shutdown both of my console services. I followed the instructions pretty closely for vista and ran fah.exe and it's "deleting the current work files" or something. Is the client supposed to be so slow at everything? :p

One more thing-is there any way to minimize the console window for the SMP client-just hide it completely from view? It's taking up real estate on the taskbar and I'd really rather have it running as a tray icon or in the background alltogether.
 
Some run the SMP client as a service like Billr and have had zero problems. I have not had any luck with running the SMP client as a service...
