I did a little research on Stanford's page, and searched through the forums, but could find no concrete answer to my question, Anywho, my question is:

Since the SMP client came out, will it run on a cluster? Not a VM cluster, but an honest cluster of say 5 physical computers? I don't care what OS it would use. I have experience in Linux and Windows, and I have a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise License.

It should, however it's locked to 4x threads so a 4 unit cluster if about as good as your gonna get.

They keep giving me the run around on this over there. I've bugged them in every cluster thread there.
 
The SMP fah client was designed to run on a single 64-bit SMP computer. However, the SMP nature of the client MAY allow it to run on an actual cluster if all the processors are also 64-bit, but it would not be a supported install.

And with the very large amounts of data passing between the four threads, very fast interconnects are needed to get any usable performance, i.e the short deadlines that promote the quick return of WUs may prevent clustering with slow connections.

If you should happen to get it running, please let us know.

UnCat5e or better (8 wire UnTP, that's un-twisted pair)... I guess they found out that twisting the wires between cans caused too much interference :D

Interesting hypothesis, the last time I looked twisted pair was far more resistant to outside and internal interference.

On the other hand, perhaps it all in the way the cans are attached.:p




 
You should ask FLECOM. He seems to have the coolest cans :)
