Folding SMP while folding on both of my 470 kills my PPD. Are there any changes that can be made to fix this or am I just SOL?

Without SMP my GPU's get the same PPD, but with SMP one GPU is 2k points short and I think SMP takes a hit from the GPU's folding as well thus not making me gain that much by folding all 3.

Any suggestions/help is appreciated.

set the gpu's to above idle. if your using the normal clients and not the gpu tracker. in the client you can set the priority to above normal. sometimes helps or use winAFC to set the priorities for the gpu clients to above idle. it will hurt the smp client more. so its really about limiting the damage on where you lose ppd.

I just started folding this month, but my ppd took a major hit if I didn't have the 2xGPU3 clients set to 'slightly higher' and the SMP2 client set to 'idle'. Setting all 3 the same was bad.

SLI also seemed to cause a drop to 1 of the GPUs, but that may have been Aero related.

Turning Aero off, gave me a nice boost on the GPUs. It makes Win7 look like Win95, but I liked Win95! :) Current PPD per GPU3 client is at 11765 (P6805)

SMP ppd varies wildly depending on the project. Right now it's at 9896 (P6057) which is the highest I've seen.

I'm currently folding with 2x EVGA GTX 460s @ 840 (6.41r2/GPU3 OpeMM 2.15), and an AMD 1090T @ 3.3 (2.20/SMP2 Gromacs 2.22).

The consensus I got from perusing forums on this subject is to try different priority combinations and use the one that works best with YOUR hardware.

Good luck!

yeah areo will effect the primary card that has the display on it. though its really not that much of a difference. maybe 200 PPD. not worth it for having to look at pos windows 95 all day.

The other thing several have done with quite a bit of success is run the -smp 7 flag on your I7. That frees up one core for the GPUs to use, and the reports have been that not having the smp client fight for the GPU core actually helps ppd. There have been quite a few SMP + GPU boxen come up fairly recently (Filter and ccityinstaller come to mind) and several that have been running like this for many months like APOLLO and Tigerbiten, and they all do very well running both. I am sure some will chime in shortly.

Me too, CPU client to SMP 10, and 3 GPU clients. I just wish the SWMBO would let it stay on 24/7.

Running -bigadv and -smp 7 on my i7 920 cuts ~10 minutes off my tpf (48:02 to ~35-38min, there's more variance) on a 6900 with 2x gtx 460s folding in the same box. The gpus don't seem to be affected either way.

Even when I was running -smp 7 it was still killing the ppd of the other GPU. I also turned off Aero and it was the same. I guess it's not that much of a big deal. The GPU3 clients have been set to slightly higher since I set them up as well.

i have a sandy i fold on sometimes, when have the GPU (GTX460) going the total is lower than SMP by itself. i just run the GPU one time when the SMP is uploading anything over 750 points. i cant really be bothered to mess around with priorities and things on that machine, its only occasional folder.

Mine is an occasional folder as well I just leave it over night. I guess I shouldn't worry about it too much at this point.

dont need to mess with that stuff. just get f@H gpu tracker and just set it in there as smp 7 and thats it.
