Ok, so i have been gone for awhile from this forum. There is an SMP client now. Currently i run 4 instances of folding@home on my 2x Prestonia Xeon@3.0GHZ

Would it be good to run the SMP client? Or keep running 4 instances?

Definitely run the SMP if it can finish the WU's in time. The proteins are worth a lot more points than regular FAH proteins.

question: I have SMP client for windows (e6400), but after it downloads the files it just hangs at "Working..."
I have reinstalled the app and it still does this. I left it running all day before, and it just said "Working..."
My cpu usage is around 30% when it does this, is this normal?

No it is not normal.. did you download the files, run the install from the file downloaded, then go into the folder you installed it into and run the file there called install. After that then run fah (if you see the 2 times message).. all this is in the readme that is installed in the directry you installed F@H into

It should use 100% cpu, so something is not right

yes, found the problem. Should of read the readme file doh. I didn't enter user name and password. working now! thanks guys!

I think i am gonna pass on the SMP client. Stanford said i should have at least 4 cores. I have only 2 cores... and slow ones at that. I have old Prestonia Xeons.... I don't think i would be able to finish a WU in time.

Some you will, some you won't, depends on the WU. I went back to 4 regular clients on my dual 2.8 prestonia. Stanford needs to put out some WU with longer time limits or that are just smaller so we can use SMP systems that are over 2 years old with the SMP client.

thread jack PM me if you can lend me assistance in getting SMP setup. I am not sure what the heck is wrong. Thanks!
