SMP Client for Intel iMac?

Just wondering if it is best for me to use the SMP client for my CD 2.0Ghz iMac rather than using two of the older clients.

The WUs are longer, yes? From what I've read, Stanford sends out the big WUs not given to the regular clients, I guess that is okay. Any reason not to use it?

From my reading, the units are larger, but also worth a LOT more points...some to the tune of 2000+. Unless you have an aversion to running beta software, I'd run the SMP client w/o hesitation. I assure you, if my mac was a newer Intel based system, thats what I'd be running.

Just picked up a Core Dupo Mac Mini last week from the office (no idea why it was there we dont havea SINGLE Mac in production ANYWHERE) and just finished installing XP on it this weekend. Now to get it to start folding. Time to make Apple pay for all those crappy G series folders

Well after looking at the SMP folding FAQ it looks like unless you have a Dual processor Dual Core Mac (having 4 CPUs sort of) then the SMP client really isnt set up for it. For the quick reading I did it looked like they only wanted you to run it if you had 4 dedicated cores to use (which the mini doesnt have) so I just threw 2 instances of the regular console on it and let it roll. BTW it sure feels good to have XP running on this Mac. It makes me feel a little bit evil

Notes for running

We strongly suggest people run this client on 4-core boxes. While it will run on 2-core boxes, we have noticed some potential problems (we are looking into these issues now).

The bolded part is all you need to worry about if you have a Mac Mini.

well I just checked the folding site and I didn't see anything in the install instructions saying to use 4-core boxes...I have it running on both my iMac and MacBook now and will update if I see anything "odd"

So what kind of PPD are people getting out of mac mini's with the SMP client? I was thinking of picking up the base model and swapping a T7400 into it with some extra memory. This a good solution if I want to run the SMP client without resorting to linux?

Well, the SMP client only runs on OS X or Linux, so unless you set up your Mac to dual boot, your out of luck anyways.

My macs are set to run Mac OS X or I can boot to XP (not using parallels) so te OSX part isnt a problem. I am not wiping them and only running WinXP
