250 watt PS powering an A7N8X Deluxe w/ a barton 2500 non oced, two cd drives, one floppy, one hard drive, and a AIW 9700 pro.

Now, I don't see smoke or flames but when I go behind the computer I smell 'solder'. The melting solder kind of smell.

I'm thinking that the power supply is just really old (older then all of the current components) but could this be a mistake and the power supply is a time bomb waiting to go off?

I think 250W is a bit light for this card. You might at well fit a 400W+ before this PSU blows an ugly way and take everything with it.

How clean would you say is the PSU still inside. I would open it and look for clues...Just take into account theres 220V inside.

the two times i have seen that, the psu went out, taking the motherboard with it one of the times. I would spend $40 - $50 and get something pretty quick.

The 250W powmax PSU was replaced with a 350W enermax PSU, and the smell is gone.

I cracked the case on the powmax, and it seems the dust inside was just being cooked a bit :D

Mmmm cooked dust...

You made a good move, those Enermax's are a great deal, you can probably overclock now more too.

I wouldn't mind doing that, but the chip temp is at or hovers around 65C...so that needs to be fixed...(any suggestions?)

..plus the enermax makes a high pitch whine which also needs fixing...
(the enermax can't be returned either :p)
