I am looking to set up a computer system for a small business of ~10. They have had a number of issues with viruses/spyware and deal with a lot of data that needs to be secure and uncompromised.
I'm designing a web based CRM and content management system for them and was thinking about some sort of nonpersistent VDI (I'm not sure if this is the right use of the term VDI, is this perhaps better suited to terminal server?) with windows or linux.
I figure nonpersistant desktops will be fine since the work will take place on the local crm/cms and there is really no need for local documents - it will also prevent any spyware from staying on the system beyond a reboot.
I'm not exactly sure how this would work but I am hoping I can manage updates/new program installs centrally by making the changes to a GOLD virtual image which each user loads.
I know VDI is usually expensive, but is there some free alternative (I don't care about the OS) where I can achieve this functionality? I envision a Golden VM image, and when a new user logs on, a new VM spins up or something like that.
Does this make any sense?
