im thinkin about doing a smartcard mod, and put it in where my floppy drive is at....

has anyone done this yet?

cuz if u did post some pix

no smartcard

not smartmedia

RSA type card, simmilar to simcard, but they use them on dish networks and such, but there used for laptops, but there are usb readers for desktops

yup thanks for that

so im guessing nobody has done this on a desktop hardmodded into a case?

So what exactly are you doing? Are you trying to make it so that your computer can read smartcards?

no, im thinkin abotu gettin a usb reader and hard wiring it to the mobo and then making a custome bezel over the floppy spot on my case so that i can insert the smartcard there and such. windows xp is compatable automatically with smartcards, you just have to haev the reader.

Sounds good. What do you plan on doing with it, swipe CCs?;) LOL
Definity something I haven't heard of before, I hope it goes well.

nope. i was told by some rsa people ican format an unused simcard (like before u take the sim outa the card)

or i can use a dish networks card, or i can order some from ibm... or i can use gemplus cards

:)

I can't see anything that would prevent you from doing this. But are you doing it just so you can format blank cards? I still have no idea what you are planning on doing with it. How do you use a dish network card? What do you do with it?

you can use it to login to windows xp

Maybe he is planing on making a card so he gets all the channels without paying for them... Kind of like a black box, but with satellite all you have to do is take out your current card and have someone make you a new one that allows you to recieve all the channels.

Sounds like he is planning to use the smartcard as a type of key for access to him computer. Sort of like those motherboards that require a specific encrypted USB thumbdrive to start up.

i have a smartcard reading keyboard and two serial smartcard readers but alas, no smartcards :(

if you find any use for it LMK

oh i will

College here (Singapore), have computer labs where to access the computer you insert your smart(ID) card. It logs you onto the domain and into XP. Safemode would probably get past it though I haven't tried. On the other hand, safemode wouldn't log you onto the domain for access to the network drives.

thast kinda what i am going to do, computer wont operate w/o the smartcard and will run after pin is entered when the card is in
