Smartcard Authentication with Active Directory

Anybody know where I can find some info on using smart cards with active directory and windows 7 & Vista (No 3rd party stuff just Microsoft). I am finding it difficult to come up with something from Google.
 
At a min, you will need a 3rd party middleware software. MS is working to make it so you wont need it, but right now it is necessary.

Once you can read a smart card on the clien PC, then setting it up for AD is pretty easy.
