One of our old iBooks runs a program called SMART Reporter that is suppose to monitor the health of the hard drive. Recently we have been receiving warnings that the hard drive will fail. The machine however seems to run rather well.

Is the SMART reporter program accurate? Should I really swap out the drive? I've seen mixed reviews on various sites and wasn't sure if it's worth my time to replace the drive or just turn off SMART reporter.

Any help would be great!
 
I would run a few diagnostic tests on the drive to confirm if there's any problems. Usually, I don't just any single app or diagnostic to tell me if something is wrong (or not wrong).
 
It's an iBook, so it's old. And judging by the name, it's monitoring via S.M.A.R.T.

If it's telling you it's failing, it's failing. At this point, it's just a matter of time. You'd better backup that system and drop in a new HDD.
